ANNOUNCEMENTS

2019 Pledge Cards (inside the Sunday Bulletin) Please prayerfully consider your financial commitment to Good Shepherd for 2019.  Your pledge is a tangible sign of your desire to live wholly for God, that you put God first.  It is an investment in God's work through the missions and ministries of Good Shepherd.  It is your expression of gratitude, worship, and praise for all God has done in your life.

Pumpkin Fest post-mortem  - This Sunday after the 10:30 am service.  Please join us in the Education Wing as we talk about this year's event and make plans for next year.

Saint Luke Food Pantry - Many Thanks for your generous response to the special appeal for specific food items, Giant gift cards, and financial contributions designated for the food pantry's Thanksgiving outreach to immigrants/refugees from the Middle East.  Lynn Wood has been working this week on coordination with Ruth Manchester from St. Luke.  They are expecting 45 families.  Your Giant gift cards will be one of the items in the bag.  Your cash and check contributions have been combined with other gifts received by Saint Luke to purchase reasonable priced spices and dried fava beans at Yekta Supermarket on Rockville Pike. If you wish to make a purchase or a contribution toward this special outreach, you may bring it to church by 10 am this Saturday.  Lynn will be in the parish hall helping with our monthly bag lunch ministry.  She will also check the food pantry cabinet in the church and the Social Ministries mailbox.  Of course, "regular" staples are happily received each week as Saint Luke continues as always with its regular community outreach.  The "suggestions list" is available at the back of the church.

November = Good Shepherd's Outreach to Shepherd's Table - While we pray and work for an end to homelessness, we continue to do our part in caring for those men and women who are homeless.  Since 1983, Shepherd's Table has been an essential and growing part of Silver Spring's response.  Good Shepherd offers support through our volunteers who serve dinner at Shepherd's Table the first Friday of each month.  We contribute 20% of our Globe offerings.  Each November, we collect new items that provide much-needed warmth in the colder weather to come.  These include:  hats, thermal gloves, scarves, thermal socks, long underwear, and large backpacks.  Handmade (Go Needlers and other talented folks!) or store bought (Go Shoppers!).  Please bring your warm gifts to church on November 11, 18, and 25, after which they will be delivered to Shepherd's Table.

Shepherd's Table Saints -  Every outreach ministry needs a coordinator.  Our hearts are full of gratitude to Beth Baker, who has served that role for many years.  Look for a special appreciation soon.  Her mantle has been passed along to Deborah (Debbie) Beebe.  We thank Debbie for having the courage to step forward when Beth announced her "retirement."  Debbie is happy to talk with you about the possibility of joining the team of committed Good Shepherd volunteers who help serve dinner at Shepherd's Table the first Friday of each month.

Upcoming Events

The semi-annual Hospitality Committee Meeting will be held next Monday, November 12 at 3  pm in the St. Francis Room.  This is a very important meeting as we will be finalizing our last event for 2018 and planning a tentative calendar of events for 2019. If you would like to be part of this committee or just have ideas for next year's calendar, please join us.  New members and new ideas are welcome.  See Vonnie Schoppelrei for more information.

Good Shepherd annual Thanksgiving Potluck will be held at 5 pm on November 22 in the Parish Hall. Sign up sheet and information is on the table in the Narthex or contact Joe Burckle for more information (301-942-8804 [email protected]).

Advent begins Sunday December 2nd.

This year the church office will be closed from December 25 through January 1.

Cathedral pilgrimages 2019: Registration is open! Pilgrimage to the Holy Land April 28-May 11, 2019
For thousands of years, pilgrims have journeyed to the Holy Land to experience God in real and tangible ways. Retrace Jesus' steps, follow the paths of martyrs and the early Church, and see the Bible with fresh eyes in the land where God dwelt among us. There's no better way to experience the Easter season than a life-changing Holy Land pilgrimage. You'll never look at yourself-or your faith-quite the same way again. More information available at  cathedral.org/holyland.

Pilgrimage to Iona - May 23-June 2, 2019
Join us on a pilgrimage to Iona as we listen to the silence of the land, the wisdom of saints, and the stories of our fellow pilgrims. The rhythm of our days begins and ends with prayer with the ecumenical Iona Community in the historic abbey church. Follow in Columba's footsteps and discover how the landscape of this holy island and the wisdom of Celtic spirituality through the ages may deepen your own spiritual path in whatever walk of life you come from and return to. More information available at  cathedral.org/iona
