POUND, Ezra Weston Loomis (1885-1972)
 
SUPERB ASSOCIATION COPIES OF POUND'S LATER WORKS

Ezra Pound was an expatriate American poet and critic, and a major figure in the early 'modernist' literature - that is, experimental literature written during the first part of the twentieth century. He is one of the most influential, and most controversial poets of the twentieth-century however, Pound's antisemitism soured evaluation of his poetry.

The collection consists of 4 items dating from 1966 to 1979, specifically, two scarce association copies of private press books signed by Ezra Pound and both with "DP's" initials (Ezra Pound's wife Dorothy Pound) provenance. Two pieces of ephemera by Omar Shakespear Pound (1926-2010), Ezra Pound's son with one signed by the poet Omar S. First Editions from 1933 to 1955. An interesting archive of five early titles in Spanish by the Cuban poet, translator, critic and scholar Eugenio Florit. 4 of 5 books inscribed to his friend and colleague, H. R. (Hoffman Reynolds) Hays, American poet, novelist, critic, playwright, translator, social anthropologist, and educator. Hays had a special interest in Spanish language writers and was the author of "12 Spanish American Poets" 1943 of which Eugenio Florit was one of the poets.

Louis Untermeyer (1885-1977) was an American poet, anthologist, critic, editor and translator of more than one hundred books for readers of all ages.. COCKSHUTT, Henry [1868-1944]

Cockshutt, Henry and family (his wife, Isabelle, and their daughters). An archive of social correspondence mainly to Isabelle Cockshutt but also to her husband, Henry Cockshutt (1868 - 1944), who was the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. In 1921, he was appointed lieutenant-governor of Ontario and served in that position until 1927. From 1929 to 1944, he was the chancellor of the University of Western Ontario.
This collection is comprised of approximately 25 letters, 10 Christmas cards, a pamphlet, 7 photos, and 10 other kinds of documents or cards relating to . The one 1829 US edition copy located  from Rutgers University, 100, 80 p., [1] leaf of plates : 1 ill. ; 15 cm. Rutgers  note author as Strickland, Jane Margaret, 1800-1888 incorrectly.

The first edition of Hugh Latimer was the UK 1828 edition and reprinted in UK in 1834. Both UK editions are considered quite rare with copies only being located  in LAC (two 1834 copies), McGill (1834), TPL (1828), Carleton University, Wayne State University and Rutgers University... 8 x 13 inch autograph 4pp with 2pp letter signed, (one and one-quarter pages and docket info on last page), Nova Scotia, June 25, 1802, to William Meredith. "...I do not understand to who, the 600,000 Sterling is to be paid if to those Creditors whose Debtors were Solvent at the commencement of the Revolution... it appears His Majesty is to authorize certain persons to receive the same...  If I must come to attend the prosecutions I had rather give all up than risque myself in Jersey considering the vile Treatment I received when in Morris County am apprehensive murder would be the consequence should I come carry on prosecutions not do I see any reason for my personal attendance...."  
Fold with a split at the bottom and a 1/2" hole in 2nd page not affecting any text. Overall very good condition otherwise.

Hayman Seleg Mendelssohn famous silver gelatin portrait of Ellen Terry circa 1886 originally owned by listed American illustrator Artist Eric (Federic) Pape (1870-1938) and later from recent previous owner, Warren Coolidge (Coolidge married Pape's second wife after Pape's death). Provenance as provided by the dealer this item was purchased from. Pape also did a drawing of Terry circa 1900-1910 from another photo he had of Terry.

This image depicts distraught Grenadiers standing and kneeling by the side of a fallen General Wolfe at the Plains of Abraham, Quebec. The on-going combat can be seen in the background. First Edition. 8pp., 16 x 12 inches. This is the promotional mock-up of ALOUD - A Literary Quarterly that was supposed to be an annual quarterly published by the Harbourfront Reading Series.

Due to lack of funding, this quarterly was never published. This issue was edited by Greg Gatenby and featured a cover image of Margaret Atwood as well as a two page excerpt by Atwood  "Tropical Botany Cafe Con Carbon" from a "Novel in Progress." The complete two page excerpt text will be provided electronically to the buyer of this article "Novel in Progress", titled in the magazine, "Tropical Botany Cafe Con Carbon"

Two original images transmitted in circa 1923 by "Radiovision" and his written and inscribed 1925 book, "Vision By Radio" Washington DC, C. Francis Jenkins (1867-1934)
TWO OF THE FIRST IMAGES CIRCA 1923 TRANSMITTED  BY C. FRANCIS JENKINS OVER RADIO WAVES USING HIS MECHANICAL TELEVISION TECHNOLOGY.
Two of  the actual photographs he transmitted c1923. There is one original in the Library of Congress in the copyright collection and seven other Radiovision with the same provenance as ours, now in a private television museum.
[Sybil Almand] transmitted Photograph circa 1923:
 4-1/2 x 2-13/16 inches, image 3-3/8 x 2-3/8 inches. Verso stamped in purple ink: "  This photograph was sent /and received by Radio./  Jenkins Laboratories/Washington, D.C."  [Black and white photograph, head and shoulders image of Sybil Almand]  Sybil Almand was on the staff of Jenkins Laboratories and, hence, was one of the first television researchers in the world.  She may have been the first woman involved in television research but this needs further research. Photograph reproduced in Jenkin's 1925 book, Vision By Radio, on page [19].  On page 17, it states: " This and succeeding pages are examples of photographs received by radio from a distance by the Jenkins system, some of them from Washington to Philadelphia, and represent the best work done in 1922, 1923, and 1924...Click for more information and photos;
