SUPERB ASSOCIATION COPIES OF POUND'S LATER WORKS

Ezra Pound was an expatriate American poet and critic, and a major figure in the early 'modernist' literature - that is, experimental literature written during the first part of the twentieth century. He is one of the most influential, and most controversial poets of the twentieth-century however, Pound's antisemitism soured evaluation of his poetry.

The collection consists of 4 items dating from 1966 to 1979, specifically, two scarce association copies of private press books signed by Ezra Pound and both with "DP's" initials (Ezra Pound's wife Dorothy Pound) provenance. Two pieces of ephemera by Omar Shakespear Pound (1926-2010), Ezra Pound's son with one signed by the poet Omar S. Pound and inscribed to Greg Gatenby, the Canadian author and founder of the Harbourfront Reading Series and the other, signed by Omar Pound and inscribed by him to Greg Gatenby: "For Greg from Omar Oct 1979" ...   Click for more information and photos;

First Editions from 1933 to 1955. An interesting archive of five early titles in Spanish by the Cuban poet, translator, critic and scholar Eugenio Florit. 4 of 5 books inscribed to his friend and colleague, H. R. (Hoffman Reynolds) Hays, American poet, novelist, critic, playwright, translator, social anthropologist, and educator. Hays had a special interest in Spanish language writers and was the author of "12 Spanish American Poets" 1943 of which Eugenio Florit was one of the poets.

Louis Untermeyer (1885-1977) was an American poet, anthologist, critic, editor and translator of more than one hundred books for readers of all ages.. He will be best remembered as the prolific anthologist whose collections have introduced students to contemporary American poetry since 1919. Untermeyer was appointed the fourteenth Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1961.

This mini-collection includes;
1) ALS to Mr. Chatto of Chatto & Windus, n.d. but 1883-4, re publication of his novel entitled Philistia.
2) ALS to Andrew Lang, 10 February 1895, telling Lang that he won't agree with this book (on the front free endpaper of The Woman Who Did. London: John Lane, 1895), green cloth, Keynotes Series, [viii], 241, [1], pp., 16 pp. adverts. 1865 Stances et poëmes  Book, 7-1/4 x 4-1/4 inches, (6), 237pp, (1 blank) (2). Rebacked  original dark green morraco cloth with original marbles end papers. Published in Paris, by Achille Faure. Inscribed on the reverse of the title page by Sully to his friend and colleague, François Coppée  A couple of minor spotting on pages but otherwise very good condition. Sully's first edition of his first book.

Roloff Beny Collection consists of an Aegean Note-book Published and signed by Roloff Beny the author, in 1950 and 12 letters and  ephemera including correspondence between Roloff Beny Canadian artist and photographer and his friend, "Mac" ("my boy") Cecil Garland Stewart McKeown. 1943-1972.

Original gilt pictorial faded with some soiling on spine green cloth with a couple of small marks on back cover and bumped spine ends. Ownership inscription on fly leaf otherwise, overall condition is very good condition.

A very attractive set of the first British 2 volume edition in very good condition.

9" x 11" approximately, Floral Album. Pages unnumbered. c1850 based on date of Riker address or location at Fulton Street [Riker located there from 1844-1855]. Very attractive album. Rebacked preserving original contemporary leather bound cover... Inside 24 full page B&W  engravings are spaced throughout the different coloured pages.  Gift inscription on one of the front pages however only one page appears inside the book with writing on it, all others are blank pages.

First US edition. , 5-1/2 x 7-1/2 inches, 376pp [8, ads], Rebacked with original spine relaid with publisher's dark green cloth with gilt stamped letters and small beaver at head of spine, boards with perimeter blind stamped, and new endpapers.  John Jacob Astor's attempt in 1811 to establish the first American settlement on the Pacific Coast.
This is cited as the second edition, but in fact is the first American edition .

3rd Edition. 8 x 5 inches, xxv (1), [1]-508 pp. Illustrated, 16 plates including a portrait frontispiece. page after 508 has been removed with a small piece remain, possibly an ad. Soiled original cloth with gilt type on spine and front cover. with minor edge wear. The text pages are very good with some age toning. Overall a good+ condition.

Autographed and inscribed by the author using both his Christian name and his Indian name Timus .

"...I do not understand to who, the 600,000 Sterling is to be paid if to those Creditors whose Debtors were Solvent at the commencement of the Revolution... it appears His Majesty is to authorize certain persons to receive the same...  If I must come to attend the prosecutions I had rather give all up than risque myself in Jersey considering the vile Treatment I received when in Morris County am apprehensive murder would be the consequence should I come carry on prosecutions not do I see any reason for my personal attendance...."  
Fold with a split at the bottom and a 1/2" hole in 2nd page not affecting any text. Overall very good condition otherwise.

Hayman Seleg Mendelssohn famous silver gelatin portrait of Ellen Terry circa 1886 originally owned by listed American illustrator Artist Eric (Federic) Pape (1870-1938) and later from recent previous owner, Warren Coolidge (Coolidge married Pape's second wife after Pape's death). Provenance as provided by the dealer this item was purchased from. Pape also did a drawing of Terry circa 1900-1910 from another photo he had of Terry.

This image depicts distraught Grenadiers standing and kneeling by the side of a fallen General Wolfe at the Plains of Abraham, Quebec. The on-going combat can be seen in the background.
