Parks Update - Tennis Courts & Other Amenities Reopening
COVID-19 Sports Field Update
Earlier this afternoon the Province announced that many park amenities like tennis courts and sports fields may reopen as of May 22.

Rules for physical distancing and small gathering sizes apply. No team play is allowed at this time.

We will be updating our website with these details shortly, and tomorrow staff will be visiting the parks prepare for the courts, etc. for reopening.

MCFS receives grant from Firehouse Subs Foundation

Thanks to a $19,200 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada, Middlesex Centre Fire Services has new air lifting bags. This equipment will assist firefighters when faced with serious motor vehicle collisions.

Dealing with Gypsy Moth Infestations in Municipal Woodlots - Aerial Spraying Program

Middlesex Centre is conducting an aerial spray of Btk to control gypsy moth infestations in select municipal woodlots and parks in Ilderton and Kilworth.

The first of two treatments successfully took place on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.

The second treatment will take place around May 29, depending on the weather. Once the date is confirmed, it will be posted on the municipal website and social media 48-hours prior to spraying. You also can sign-up to receive gypsy moth program email notices.

At Work in the Community - Project Updates

It’s construction season, with many municipal projects underway or in the last stages of planning.

  • In an effort to limit after-hours vehicle traffic, new security gates were installed at Douglas B. Weldon Park in Arva. Gates automatically open in the morning and close at dusk.

  • Work is nearing completion on the Delaware Water Interconnect, linking the water system in that community to Middlesex Centre services from Komoka.

  • Major reconstruction work is planned for Vanneck Rd. between Ilderton Rd. and Sinclair Dr. for two months starting in late June.

You’ll see municipal staff in the community:

  • maintaining sports fields, playgrounds and park amenities, and preparing splash pads for potential opening in mid-June

  • preparing roads for tar and chip application

  • undertaking ongoing road maintenance including clearing and cutting shoulders

  • flushing and painting fire hydrants

Council Meeting Highlights - May 12, 2021
Mayor Aina DeViet opened the meeting with a thanks to the members of Trees Middlesex Centre. Over the past decade, this dedicated group have provided residents with 250 to 300 trees per year to increase roadside tree planting in the municipality. Trees Middlesex Centre will be handing this project over to the Poplar Hill Lions as of this year.

At the meeting, Council:

  • received a detailed presentation by Watson and Associates Economists Ltd. on the municipality’s Asset Management Plan


  • approved a new policy regarding the billing and collection of general receivables

  • received an update on the new award program from County Council’s Women’s Caucus that recognizes outstanding women in Middlesex County

The next council meeting takes place May 26, 2021 at 6:00 pm.

Asset Management Plan Update - Public Review

We're updating the municipal Asset Management Plan, which outlines how assets like roads, water lines, buildings and equipment are managed and funded over the long term. The updated plan is now posted for public review and comment until May 28, 2021.

Second Tax Instalments for 2021 due May 31

The second instalment of your property taxes is due May 31. There are many options for paying your bill, including online through your financial institution or by submitting a cheque in the drop-box at the municipal office. See website for details.

Watering with a hose
Summer outdoor watering restrictions start June 1
Alternate day outdoor watering restrictions are in place from June 1 to September 15. Houses with even numbered addresses should water on even days, and odd numbered addresses on odd days.

Special rules apply for watering garden beds and new sod.
