Grand Champions 

Cardinal Vanguard had a fantastic start to the marching season.   They traveled to Central Lafourche to compete on October 6 and received outstanding music, outstanding visual, outstanding general effect, outstanding percussion, outstanding Colorguard, and 1st place in class 2A. The Vanguard also won overall outstanding general effect and they were overall Grand Champion of the competition with a score of 79.85.
 
Letter Jacket/NHS Assembly

The National Honor Society Inductions and Letterman Jacket Assembly was held October 5.
 
Students selected to the NHS Cardinal Chapter have an overall GPA of 3.50 or better and have met the standards of leadership, service, and character of the National Honor Society.
 
The official school letterman jacket is given to juniors and seniors who qualified in the areas of academics, athletics, and other performing groups.
 
To qualify for a jacket in academics, a senior must have had a 3.5 GPA by the end of his first semester of his junior year and attended EDW at least 2 years. A junior must have had a 3.5 GPA at the end of his sophomore year and attended EDW at least two years. To qualify for a jacket in athletics, a student must have met the individual requirements of a particular varsity sport.
 
Other performing groups awarded jackets were band, Colorguard, concert choir, varsity cheerleaders, and dance squad.
 
 
 
Living Rosary

A school-wide living rosary was held October 8 in the stadium sponsored by Campus Ministry.
Alumni Association Receives Check

Thank you to all who helped support the EDW Alumni Association with getting a "''68 State Champ" burger for the month of September at the Alumni Grill. With your help, the association raised $953.96!

Alumni Director Michelle Keife '99 and Alumni Association President Ben Jones Jr. '07 are pictured receiving the donation on October 9.




Life Chain
   
Students are pictured holding up signs for the annual Life Chain at St. Joseph Church on October 7.

On the first Sunday in October, Life Chain invites the churches in each city and town across the country to stand on a designated local sidewalk and pray for 90 minutes, while holding a pro-life sign.

Hall of Fame


Edward Douglas White Catholic High School will hold its 2018 Hall of Fame induction ceremony Sunday, December 2 at noon in the E. D. White Student Union to induct Judge David M. Richard.   
 
David M. Richard is a 1963 graduate of Thibodaux College. He attended Nicholls State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1967, and then attended Louisiana State University Law School and earned a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1970.
 
The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those who have exhibited outstanding Christian values in their contribution to their profession and in their religious, civic, business, or educational involvement.

Alumnus of the Year




The Alumni Association of Edward Douglas White Catholic High School has announced Jeff Prosperie '84 as the recipient of the 2018-2019 Alumnus of the Year Award.

The Alumnus of the Year Award is given to a graduate of Thibodaux College, Mount Carmel Academy, Thibodaux Central Catholic, or E. D. White Catholic, who exemplifies the charism of the Sisters of Mount Carmel and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in his or her life and who has achieved success in the global community.

Cardinal Greats 2018

   














 


The Athletic department has announced this year's inductees into the 2018 Cardinal Greats. Congratulations to James "Jim" Caillouet '65 (left),  Arthur "Art" Naquin (right) and Nathan Joseph Thornton, Jr. '70 . The three inductees will be honored during halftime at the football game against Vandebilt Catholic on November 2.
 
Kiddie Camp

 


EDW held its annual cheer and dance Kiddie Camp in the main gym on October 13. There were 104 girls in attendance ranging in grades kindergarten through 5th.  Attendees participated in a variety of activities including the learning of a cheer, chant, a dance, and the painting of spirit items. They learned cheer stunts under the supervision of an EDW cheer squad member and coach. A parent show-off was also held at the end of the camp so that the parents could see what their camper learned throughout the day.   
 
On October 19, the campers performed what they learned at camp during the 3rd Quarter of the football game.
 
 

 
Open House 2018




EDW Catholic opened its doors October 25 and welcomed prospective students and their parents to its annual Open House. School tours were given by student ambassadors that showcased the many academic, religious, and co-curricular programs offered.   
 
Clay Shoot




The E. D. White Catholic High School Cardinal Club hosted its 9th Annual Cardinal Clay Shoot on October 27 at the Tri-Parish Sporting Clays Range in Houma.  All proceeds from the event will support EDW athletics.  Athletic Director Mary Cavell is pictured with the Daigle, Himel, and Daigle team
 




E. D. White is excited to announce that it will be participating in the fourth annual #iGiveCatholic Giving Day on November 27.
 
#iGiveCatholic is a one-day online giving event for the faithful in arch/dioceses across the nation (and the world) to come together and raise as many charitable dollars as possible for Catholic parishes, schools, and ministries on the annually celebrated #GivingTuesday fundraising initiative.
 
Donations for the #iGiveCatholic Giving Day will be accepted on November 27 from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm (midnight to midnight); however, you will have an opportunity to make your gifts in advance beginning November 12th and running through November 26th. All donations made to E. D. White will be used to purchase updated equipment to the EDW Broadcasting Studio.

Teacher Highlight

Lance Ford attended Mt. Carmel Academy and St. Joseph, and graduated from E. D. White in 1973.  
 
"I have fond memories of the wonderful Sisters of Mt. Carmel and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart that taught me during my elementary and high school years," said Ford.
 
After graduating from Nicholls State University, he began teaching in the Lafourche Parish public school system. This is his 18th year at EDW and his 31st in teaching. He currently teaches religion and coaches football and baseball.
