Community Shabbat Service
Friday, November 2 at 7:00 pm
After the devastating violence of this past Shabbat, Temple B'nai Chaim invites the community to come together on
Friday, November 2 to welcome the Sabbath as one, interwoven family. This special service will be an opportunity for TBC members and the interfaith community to come together in friendship and in prayer as we honor those who were killed and injured in Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Congregation.
On Friday night, we will gather the sparks from our broken world and use that light to kindle our Sabbath lights. Join us.

Rise Against Hunger Events Package One Million Meals!
Gong will be at Services on Friday, November 9
On Saturday, October 20, 180 TBC congregants and their friends and families joined the other faith institutions in the community to help pack meals for Rise Against Hunger. 150,000 meals were packed that day. This was WiAct's 8th year hosting the event and we reached our million meals mark. In recognition of that RAH gave WiAct the gift of an inscribed gong.
(The gong will be at Shabbat services Friday November 9 to celebrate TBC's participation in the event!!)
A gong is rung during the meal packing event for every 10,000 meals.
It was a great day and volunteers had a lot of fun while doing something very worthwhile.

Sisterhood Membership Dinner

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
The Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will take place on
Monday, November 19 at 7:30
pm at
First Church of Christ, Congregational (25 Cross Highway, Redding). Please join us for this annual celebration of our community and the friendships that bind us together!
Calling All Singers!
Mark Cherry, Director of Music at First Church of Christ, has invited anyone who is interested to join their choir for the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. Rehearsal will begin at
6:30 pm before the service (
November 19).

"Do a mitzvah in your sleep!"
Overflow Homeless Shelter
Overflow Homeless Shelter volunteers arrive at the First Congregational Church, Danbury at 9:00 p.m. and stay until 7:00 a.m. Each night we have
2 volunteers, usually one male and one female. We typically cover 3 weeks each season, which will run the following dates December 24 - December 30, January 28 - February 3, February 25 - March 3, weather dependent.
All you need to bring is a sleeping bag/blanket and pillow. There is a good cot for volunteers to use.
Clients are signed in by regular shelter reps being sure each client has been screened at the regular shelter. Volunteers serve hot chocolate and snacks. There are usually plenty of snacks there but some volunteers bring fruit, e.g. clementines or apples. Coffee is set up and on a timer to be ready in the morning. Lights are out by
10:00 p.m.
Most of the clients are regulars, so know exactly what is expected. There are usually about 24 people. They are very respectful and very appreciative to have a warm place to spend the night!
Wake up is at about 6:15 am to enable everyone to be ready to leave by 7:00 a.m. Volunteers serve coffee in the morning as everyone straightens up their area. Most are then on their way to breakfast served at Dorothy Day Hospitality House at 7:00 a.m.
In the morning, one of the volunteers sends out an email reporting the night's events and the need for any supplies.
By participating in this mitzvah you are helping to provide a warm place for people to spend the night during the coldest time of the year. Without us supporting this project, two dozen people might be out on the street looking for a place to huddle for the night. Please help!

Common Threads
While our Upper Fairfield County
 Federation is a community of communities, we are also a vast library of stories and a vibrant garden with interconnected roots. This year, with the coordination and leadership of our Federation, many of those communities - congregations, organizations, and others - have joined together to create Common Threads, a year-long project to explore our diverse ancestry and heritage and how it weaves together into our strong and integrated Upper Fairfield County community.

Stop & Shop, Caraluzzi's, and Stew Leonard's have agreed to sell the Temple gift cards at a discount of 5-10%. Our congregants purchase the gift cards (they look just like credit cards) from the Temple at face value and use them as cash when shopping at the participating supermarkets. They may be purchased in increments of $100. Please email

Share Your Simcha - Sponsor a Preneg, Oneg or Flowers!
A great way of celebrating special simchas, such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, the birth of a child or grandchild, is sharing your nachas with the entire congregation by sponsoring the Shabbat oneg, preneg or flowers for the Friday of your special week. No special occasion? You can still sponsor a Shabbat! We will arrange for the flowers, food, and set-up, you just make a minimum donation of $125 for an oneg, $180 for a Preneg or $250 for the flowers.
