IRONMAN is a registry recruiting 5,000 men with advanced prostate cancer from 9 countries. More than 366,000 men die of prostate cancer globally every year. Research on a man's type of prostate cancer, treatment and side effects will help inform what causes prostate cancer, how to stop or slow its progression, and how to provide the best possible care to enable men to live the best quality life possible. The Metastatic Prostate Cancer Project takes a new approach to cancer research in which researchers partner directly with men with metastatic and/or advanced prostate cancer , who share their samples and clinical information in order to speed up important discoveries. The project was launched in January of this year by Count Me In, a non-profit stewarded by the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Biden Cancer Initiative, Emerson Collective, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in an effort to accelerate the pace of discoveries for men with advanced prostate cancer. The project invites participation from men around the country with metastatic and/or advanced prostate cancer to study their cancer using cutting-edge genomic and molecular research studies performed at the Broad Institute. To date, over 580 men have joined the study. Learn more and join: www.MPCproject.org .

After being an integral player on the Us TOO team for the past 13 years, Amy Woods will be taking a hiatus . She has been a mainstay in developing and managing the annual SEA Blue Chicago Prostate Cancer Walk & Run since the inaugural event in 2005, and has been on the Us TOO staff part-time since 2014 as Director of Development and Fundraising. Amy’s first order of new business is to complete the top item on her bucket list as she and her husband, Larry, depart on an adventure to India next month. We thank Amy for all that she has done for the Us TOO organization and the prostate cancer community, and we look forward to working with her again as a consultant for SEA Blue in 2019.

We are saddened to share the news that long-time Us TOO volunteer Maurine Barinek passed away on Wednesday, October 17. Preceding her in death on May 9 of this year was her husband, Bob, who had advanced prostate cancer. For many years Bob and Maurine volunteered at the Us TOO home office each month to collate and mail the Hot SHEET newsletters. They were a very special couple and we dearly miss them. We extend our prayers and sincere sympathy to the Barinek family and loved ones grieving the loss.

Take care and let us know how we can help provide you with educational resources, support services and personal connections to others in the prostate cancer community.

All the best,

Chuck Strand, Chief Executive Officer
Jackie Konieczka, Office Manager
Terri Likowski, Program Director - Support Group Services
