Summer School 2020
Save the Date!  

Summer school will be offered Monday through Friday for students entering 1st-12th grade June 1, 2020, through June 19, 2020, from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Kindergarten Jumpstart is a half-day program for students entering kindergarten in the fall of 2020. The program will run June 1, 2020 - June 12, 2020, with morning AM class from 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and the afternoon PM class from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.  

Enrollment and registration will open before spring break and all families will receive an email to the online application. Paper copies will also be available. Kindergarten Registration
Class of 2033

Kindergarten registration will be held on April 13 and 14 for all children who will be 5 years old on or before July 31, 2020, and will be entering Kindergarten in August 2020.  
 
WHEN:  Monday, April 13, 2020 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (only)
Tuesday, April 14, 2020 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (only)

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS: 
  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Immunization records
  • State issued ID of the parent on the birth certificate. If unavailable, a parenting plan or other legal document must be supplied to the school. 
  • Proof of residency: Including 2 of the following documents:
  • 2019 personal property or real estate tax receipt
  • Lease/Rental agreement
  • Current utility bill (or service start up receipt) showing physical address of residence and parent’s name. 
  • Mail, telephone, and cable service are not acceptable.

Peter and the Starcatcher
Presented by HHS Fine Arts

Join the Hallsville High School Fine Arts Department as they perform Peter and the Starcatcher, a play based on the 2004 novel Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, adapted for the stage by Rick Elice.

The play provides a backstory for the characters of Peter Pan, Mrs. Darling, Tinker Bell, and Hook, and serves as a prequel to J. M. Barrie's Peter and Wendy.

REMAINING PERFORMANCES:
  • Friday, March 13 @ 6:00 p.m. 
  • Saturday, March 14 @ 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. 

Doors open 30 minutes before each performance.

Cost:  $2 for children/students and $3 for adults
Congratulations Mila Perez
2nd Place Jr. Pop

Congratulations to Mila Perez, HMS sixth-grader, on her 2nd place finish in MU’s Creating Original Music Project, K-12 Competition, Junior Pop Division. Mila recorded an original song this winter with the assistance of her piano teacher, Mrs. Chelsea Otten. Mila’s song, “Love Will Never Lose” features Mila’s vocals and an electronic background track she co-produced. 


Mila will receive a $400 award for her composition, and Hallsville Middle School will also be awarded a $750 grant to be applied to their music program. Mila will perform her song live on Saturday, April 25th at MU's COMP festival. Congratulations Mila on all your hard work, dedication, and talent!

The Hallsville Board of Education will meet in regular session on Monday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. in HHS Room 222. An agenda for the meeting can be found here when available.

The cost is $1.60 per guest which can be paid in advance to Hallsville Schools. Students will be charged their regular breakfast price through their lunch account on that day.

Book Fairs & Primary Family Fun Night
PreK-8th Grade 
 
Hallsville Primary School will have a Family Fun Night on Tuesday, March 17 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Students and parents can enjoy shopping at the Scholastic Book Fair, exploring Maker Space activities like Keva Planks, Brain Flakes, and IO blocks and building crafts. Mrs. Pemberton will be in the computer lab presenting fun educational resources available online for students to use at home to help to reinforce their learning. Hallsville Intermediate School will have open shopping times for the Scholastic Book Fair during Donuts with Dear Ones on Wednesday, March 18, Thursday, March 19 and during Spring Conferences. All classes will also visit the book fair during library class starting this week. If you are unable to attend and would like to order books, please follow the link here :  

Hallsville Middle School is hosting a Folett Book Fair in the Middle School Media Center. The fair runs today through March 19, during school hours. The book fair will also be open Thursday evening, March 19, from 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Every purchase gets an entry into the “Pick-A-Prize” lottery that will be held after spring break. Reserve your yearbook now!
Deadline March 13

Yearbooks are now on sale until Friday, March 13! Elementary books are $15 and high school books are $40. Order form links are below, which also include information on how to order online.  Orders must be turned in or ordered online by Friday, March 13.  

The elementary book (PreK-8) will be delivered in May before school is out for the summer. The high school book will be available during registration the first week of August 2020. Seniors or senior parents will be able to pick up books during registration or in the high school office. The later delivery date on the high school book is due to coverage of spring sports and events, such as Prom and Graduation.

Hallsville Youth Opportunities & Events

Second Saturdays for Kids by Orr Street Studios in downtown Columbia is hosting Sculptures in Motion: Puppets & Marionettes on Saturday, March 14. Students ages 5-15 can attend the free event to learn more about puppetry, participate in making puppets, explore marionettes, and learn to perform short stories. 

Registration is now open for Hallsville Summer Little League! Little League is open to boys and girls entering kindergarten through 8th grade. You must register online by clicking the flyer link above by March 15. Please email Erika Wildenhain at [email protected] with any questions.  


Read to Succeed
Students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade have the opportunity to earn a ticket to Six Flags through their Read to Succeed Program. Students must read at least six hours at home to earn a ticket. To register online, go to Sixflags.com/books and enter the following codes: 
Intermediate 8BRKJ (will be prompted to then enter child’s teacher)
Primary PX4K6 (will be prompted to then enter child’s teacher)
Middle JFB12 (teacher name, Sue Bryan)

All online registration and paper reading logs sent home with students must be submitted by April 13.

Community Events & Resources

The Hallsville Food Pantry will take place on Tuesday, March 24 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Hallsville Baptist Church. Food is provided at no cost for families in need. Please see the above link for what to bring. Dates for each month are also posted on the district’s calendar which can be found online here or on the app! 

Youth Athletic Equipment Donation Drop-Off
The Hallsville Youth Coalition and the Hallsville Optimist Club are collecting used sports equipment for their annual Spring Sports Equipment Swap & Give Away! If your child has outgrown their baseball cleats, glove, or moved on to another sport, please consider donating these items to younger players. Equipment can be dropped off at any building’s front office and will be distributed after spring break!  

Join Beta Sigma Phi’s 7th Annual Trot to the Tropics, a 5K Walk/Run, Fish Fry, and raffle on Saturday, April 18. All proceeds will go towards Beta Sigma Phi-Alpha Eta Iota’s local scholarship in memory of Mallory Morton and to a patient care fund set up in honor of Mallory Morton at Columbia's Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. You can register online or learn more here

Join the Columbia Parks and Recreation and Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture (CCUA) for a “Fit-Tastic! Neighborhood Block Party!” on Saturday, April 25. This free family night will be filled with prizes, games, music, and more! The party will take place at MU Health Care Pavilion at Columbia’s Agriculture Park.  

You can visit the Bookmobile on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at City Hall from 1:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The next date for Hallsville is March 24! Dates through February are listed on the district calendar. You can also reserve books online and have them delivered to “Hallsville Library-To-Go Lockers” located inside Prengers. You will receive an email when your books are available, and you scan your library card at the lockers to pick them up!
