Maryland/Purple Line Officials Give Udate

Officials from the State of Maryland and Purple Line Transit Partners provided an update last week on work in the Silver Spring segment of the Purple Line construction project. Most work currently centers around demolition of the former Spring Center and FedEx/Kinkos centers on 16th street and conversion of these two locations into staging areas for future construction.  Work in the next six months will focus on utility relocation, especially along the section of Bonifant Street west of Georgia Avenue. This part of Bonifant will be closed for about two years.  Beginning in early 2019, crews will start work on laying the foundations for the light rail track and Capital Crescent Trail over Colesville Road. Work on Bonifant east of Georgia is expected to be started next spring. Officials said that work on the Spring Street bridge, which must be closed for construction, will be one of the last projects undertaken, likely not until sometime in 2020.  Click here to see the slide presentation from the meeting.
