All Saints Day

This Sunday, November 4 is All Saints Sunday.  In our Lutheran tradition, we celebrate every individual as a saint of God.  On All Saints Sunday, we set aside time within our worship services to celebrate those saints who have passed away in the last year.  This year we gather in remembrance of Alice Funk and Thelma Sweet.

On November 4 there will be prayers and Alice and Thelma's family members will be invited to come forward to light a candle in their saint's memory.    I realize that grieving is a process and find that this act of remembrance can help in that journey through grief.  If you have questions, please feel free to be in touch with anything at all.

God is Good...All the Time!

Peace,

Pastor Andrew
Tap-In Thanksgiving Collection

Once again Tap-In (our local food pantry) will be preparing Thanksgiving baskets for local people in need. St. James has been asked to collect brownie mix, boxed potato mix, and gravy.  You may bring these items with you to church on November 4
November Mission of the Month-Bags of Hope

Once again, we will support Bags of Hope in November.  This incredible ministry offers local children in foster care a personalized duffle bag full of special items!  To participate, just stop by the community room at church and choose an ornament with the name of the children who you will be purchasing bags for. The cost is $25 per ornament.  Checks should be made out to St. James Lutheran Church and mark "Bags of Hope" on the memo line.   Click here for more information about this ministry.  Please see Rachel McBride with any questions!

We invite you to make a contribution on any of the Sundays in October.
Stewardship Emphasis
Thank you!
Thank you for your support of our ministries!  By now, members of St. James have received stewardship materials, including a pledge card.  We ask that you take the time to prayerfully consider the ways in which you will support St. James in 2019.  Completed pledge cards may be returned to the church in the offering plate or in the mail by Sunday November 11.  If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Pastor Andrew at [email protected].

The annual Barrington Interfaith Thanksgiving service will happen on Monday November 19 at 7 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church in Barrington.  You are welcome to bring a non-perishable food item and/or monetary offering to benefit TAP-IN.
Attention Thrivent Members!!

With the end of the yea r approaching, there are two important things to take note of!  First, if you have not already done so, please remember you can assign your choice dollars over to St. James.  Second, please don't forget about your Thrivent action cards.  If you need any ideas about possible projects, please see George Bowen or Pastor Andrew.
New Photos for Photo Wall
Pictorial Directory

It is time for us to prepare a new directory of our membership, complete with photos.

We are asking that you send us a family photo of your choosing so that we can begin to collect and compile new photos for a directory and our display wall.  You may send photos to: [email protected]

If you are unable to send a photo electronically, you may drop a picture off in the office.  If you would like someone at St. James to take your photo on an upcoming Sunday, please speak with Pastor Andrew.
Looking Ahead:  Advent Workshop
Looking ahead to the Advent workshop (Dec 2nd), we will be filling gift bags to go out on the LFRI December runs and elsewhere in the community where there is need.  Adult bags will include toiletries and other necessities.  The bags for children will be books, puzzles and small toys.  We hope to use Thrivent cards for this ministry, but will happily accept any children's books, puzzles or small toys you wish to donate.   Cash donations will also be accepted.  Please leave any donations in the church office labeled "advent workshop".  Thank you!

Member Update:  A note from Lillian Solvang
Greetings.  This summer I enjoyed visits, cards, letters and  calls from family members, relatives, and friends from church and other places.  I delight in spending time with others, getting caught up on what is happening in people's lives, looking at pictures, playing games and listening.  I also enjoy outings to concerts, parks and restaurants.  The theatre season has just begun and I look forward to those productions.

The past month have been a period of transition.  The time had come to sell the house that has been our home for many years.  The house needed repairs and would require adaptations for me to live there.  My family will still come to visit and Barrington will always be our home but we will focus on being together and not caring for the house.  The people who have bought the house are excited to make it their home.

I am currently residing at Hallworth House in Providence.  There are good places to sit and talk.  You are always welcome.

My address is:  Lillian Sievert Solvang,  Hallworth House (200W)
66 Benefit Street,  Providence, RI 92904
My phone # is 401-529-9869.

I don't always get to my phone before it goes to voice mail  (and I don't know how to get my voice mail messages).

Thank you for your friendship.  Best Wishes.
