Rev. Elias Rode



Brothers and sisters in Christ,

Rev. Elias Rode, age 88, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 in Boerne, Texas. He was born on September 21, 1930 in Cherry Spring, Texas to Enos and Clara (Ellebracht) Rode. He earned his Masters of Divinity and was ordained as a Lutheran Minister on July 28, 1957 and retired in 1995. He met his wife, Dorothy, when they attended Texas Lutheran College. He loved history and acted as the family historian collecting family history stories dating back to the 1800's. He was a very creative man who was able to fix things with baling wire and string and loved to garden. He planted trees in every community where he was a pastor. He was awarded the Rural Minister of the Year in 1992 by Texas A&M Town and Country. He was a camp pastor at Camp Chrysalis in Kerrville. He served in Lutheran churches in Paige, Dime Box, Houston, San Antonio and Jourdanton. For the past 17 years, he volunteered as a tutor with the OASIS program for elementary schools. This past June, he officiated at the wedding ceremony of his granddaughter, Dylan.

Rev. Rode is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rode; daughter, Julie Rode-Hickey and her husband Gary Hickey and their daughters, Dylan Hickey-McWhorter (Sean) and Ellis Hickey; daughter, Sarah Nichols and her husband Jeff and their daughter Elizabeth Clink (Kevin).

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association or Zion Lutheran Church of San Antonio, Texas.

We remember Pastor Rode's family in our prayers and trust that the promise of the Resurrection is true and sure.
