Visit by Bishop Andriy Rabiy
Today, Apostolic Administrator for the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the US, Bishop Andriy Rabiy, will stop in to Saint Basil Academy for a short visit and tour of the school. Bishop Andriy is fulfilling the administrative duties of the Metropolitan as we await the appointment of the new Metropolitan Archbishop.

Report Cards
The end of the first quarter is Tuesday, October 30. Report cards will be posted online on Friday, November 9, and parent/teacher conferences will follow on Thursday, November 15. We will be sending information about the appointment protocol for the conferences closer to online report card posting.

Winter Uniforms - on Nov. 2
The winter uniform begins on Friday, November 2. All students are expected to be in proper uniform every day, representing themselves and SBA in the best possible way. A reminder that SBA sportswear and sweatshirts are not part of the uniform.
Since the weather has gotten cold quickly, any student who has purchased the uniform pant may begin wearing the pant at any time. Students do not need to wait until November 2. The uniform pant must be purchased through Flynn and O'Hara and is the
only pant
that may be worn. Students are NOT allowed to wear sweatpants during the school day. Please consider purchasing the pants.
All uniform pieces are purchased through Flynn and O'Hara and include the following:
Winter uniform:
- Gray/navy plaid skirt
- Gray women's dress pant
- Navy blue blazer with logo (for special occasions)
- Navy blue sweater with logo OR ΒΌ zip SBA sweatshirt with logo
- White tennis shirt with logo
- Full-leg navy tights or knee socks and saddle shoes
- Low-cut/no-show socks may be worn under the navy tights
- A white SBA shirt or white turtleneck/mock neck shirt must be worn under the senior fleece

Koinonia Parent Meeting
Parents of those students attending Fall Koinonia are reminded that there is a mandatory meeting tonight, October 29 at 7 PM in the AP Room. At least one parent of each student going on Fall Koinonia must attend this meeting. Students cannot attend the retreat if a parent does not receive the information given at this meeting. Radio Program Features Mr. Meany
Our music teacher Tom Meany will be featured on WRTI Radio 90.1 FM on Thursday,
November 1 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM. Mr. Meany, a flutist will perform live with three other
colleagues and discuss a recent research project and upcoming performance. The
interview and performance will also be streamed live through the WRTI Facebook site.

Autumn Classic
The Autumn Classic will be held on Friday, November 2 at the Flourtown Country Club. Tickets are $35.

Youth Leadership Conference
Saint Basil Academy will be attending the
Anti Defamation League's Youth Leadership Conference: Exploring Diversity, Challenging Hate.
Date: Tuesday, December 4
Time: 8:15 AM
- 2 PM
The goal of the conference is to bring together student leaders from high schools around Philadelphia to explore the value of diversity, participate in anti-bias workshops and learn practical tips and techniques that they can bring back to their own schools to initiate change in school culture.
This opportunity is open to all sophomores and juniors. We would like to bring seven Basil students this year. Interested students should fill out the application linked below.

Counseling & College Services
FAFSA:
To Seniors and Parents completing the FAFSA: Please be sure that you are on the official website when filling out your FAFSA: Fafsa.gov. You must complete the FAFSA in order to be considered for financial aid; Federal, State, and/or College. The College application process steps are located on the SBA website under Student Life / College Services. Please check it out!
Grades/Academic Support:
We are coming to the end of the first quarter marking period. Parents can access grades through Blackbaud. If your daughter is struggling, please encourage her to speak with her teacher and visit Mrs. Freiling, in the Counseling Office. As our Academic Support Coordinator, Mrs. Freiling is available to meet with any student that may need additional academic support.
College Visits

Parents, did you know that since September, we have had over 60 colleges visit SBA? We hope your daughter has visited with a few. We only have few weeks left for these visits. Students can sign up on NAVIANCE today!
College Visits this Week:
Harcum College, Alvernia Univ., Loyola Univ. Maryland, West Chester Univ., Shippensburg Univ., College of Mount Saint Vincent. There is still time to students to sign up for these visits. They must sign up through NAVIANCE and they must check with teachers if class time will be missed.
A/P Testing:
Please send in payments for AP testing. All students enrolled in an AP class MUST take the requisite AP test in May. The cost of each test is $94.00. Payment due date: Jan. 31, 2019. Payments can be made online through the school store or by sending in a check made payable to Saint Basil Academy.

Junior Parents
This is a reminder that the Ring Mass/Ceremony will be held on Monday, November 5 at 7 PM in the auditorium. All Juniors should arrive no later than 6:45 PM and report to their assigned rooms. Please be aware that if the ring is not paid in full, you will not receive your ring at the Mass.
On Monday, November 12 a representative from Herff Jones Company will be at SBA for any student who needs a ring adjustment. Students are asked to take care of this at lunch in the Cafeteria.

B Street Band is Coming to SBA
Join us for a night of great music and dancing with the B STREET BAND on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 7 to 11 PM at Saint Basil Academy. The event is a BYOB. Ticket price is $40.00 which includes dinner from the famous Cescaphe Group and incredible music by the
B STREET BAND, "The Original Bruce Springsteen Tribute Band".

Saint Basil Academy's Drama Club will be performing Twelve Angry Women and Me, My Selfie and I on Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17 @7 PM. Tickets are $10 at the door. Please consider bringing a canned good for $1 off admission (up to 2 tickets)
Mamma Mia auditions will take place on December 4 and December 6. Information packets available on the drama board. Wanted: A FEW GOOD MEN to audition.
NYC Trip is Wednesday, April 17 to see
Anastasia.
Trip Tickets are $105 and include bus, show ticket and class. Down payment needs to be in no later than October 31 to secure your spot. This is on a first come, first serve basis and you must be an active member of Drama Club to attend the trip.

Father-Daughter Dance: Friday, November 30
The Father-Daughter dance will be held Friday, November 30 from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM at the Townsend Room in Philadelphia. The cost is
$65 for a dad with one daughter. $90 for a dad with two daughters. Tickets i
ncludes buffet dinner, soft drinks, DJ & dancing.
Cash bar is available.
The deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, November 21.
New York City Bus Trip, Friday, December 14:
Seats are still available but the deadline is approaching quickly. Please consider supporting Saint Basil Academy with a relaxing ride, holiday shopping and taking in the sites of New York City. You can also purchase tickets to Radio City Music Hall to see the Christmas Spectacular.
