November is wonderful time of the year. It's a month of giving thanks. For the Marin Council, it's a month of giving. Check out the Scouting for Food article below for information on this enormous food drive.
We are not just thankful for Scouting and the wonderful place we live. We are also grateful for the Scouts we serve along with the leaders who spend tireless hours giving back. Many leaders state that, although they spent many, many hours in Scouting with their children and the children of others, they wouldn't trade the experience for anything the world offers.
Read through the newsletter below to find out information about what is happening around the council. And, spread the word!

It's Roundtable Time
Thursday, November 1, Is Roundtable
Unit leaders, don't forget to send someone from your unit to the roundtable meetings. It's a great time to meet other leaders, share best practices, and ask questions. Roundtables are the first Thursday of every month (except July and August), starting at 7:30 p.m., 220 N. San Pedro Rd., San Rafael.
Before Roundtable
We will have a Scouting for Food orientation at 6:45. (See article below.) A member of the SF-Marin Food Bank will be present to talk about food insecurity in Marin County. Don't miss it!
Cub Scout Roundtable
Fun and fellowship begins at 7:30 p.m. See you there!
Boy Scout Roundtable
We're going to have a great roundtable; this month's theme is Community Service brought to you by the Order of the Arrow. Last month's theme was Commitment to Fitness, and if you missed out we have documents from roundtables posted on the council web site under the Documents tab. Scroll down until you see the Roundtable section.
I like to remind everyone that is very important for your troop to attend roundtable. Any adult in your troop can attend (leaders and parents). You will get credit towards the winter camp lottery and be better informed about what is going on around the council.
We need a troop to volunteer for opening and closing flags for this month. I am seeking a troop for every roundtable to present the opening flags. Please contact me,
David Roncaglia, roundtable commissioner, for a month you would like to sign up for. Right now, all months are open.
Venturing Rally
The next Venturing Rally is December 6 at 7:30. Contact Monika Kainz if you have input or ideas for the rally.

It's upon us!
This national food drive by the Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest food drives by a non-profit, certainly in Marin, and maybe even in the country. We participate with all the Bay Area councils at the same time. What a great help to those who are food insecure! It's also a wonderful opportunity to teach our children how to tangibly give.
Come to the orientation before roundtable to hear what's new and to pick up maps, door hangers, instructions, and patch order forms.
Distribution weekend is 11/10, and pickup is 11/17 with delivery to the Food Bank between 10:30 and 2:00.
Please note: the location of the SF-Marin Food Bank has changed. They are now located at 2550 Kerner Blvd., San Rafael.
We are looking for a couple of people to help cook hot dogs at the Food Bank for the people bringing the food. The Marin Council will be providing food along with some from the Food Bank. Please
contact Tim as soon as possible if you can help. Lunch begins to be served at 11:30.

New Youth Protection Training
TIME IS RUNNING OUT! Do it now!
Every registered adult must complete the new
Youth Protection training to remain registered with BSA. If you took YPT before February 1, 2018, then you must take the new YPT. If you have already taken YPT after February 1, then you are current for two years.
Adult Leader Training
A big
thank you to the nearly 40 adult leaders who completed training last month! We had a great turnout of Cub leaders for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training and Scout troop leaders for Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS).
The course directors and instructors, including Scouts from Troops 73 and 200, provided high-quality training. Participant feedback included, "The Scouts were very impressive and represent Marin Council very well. I would highly recommend this course to others."
Scoutmaster/ASM Specific Training and Cub Leader Specific Training will be offered again in the spring of 2019. These two adult leader courses are also available online at
my.scouting.org.
Merit Badge Counselor Training
Before roundtable on December 6 at 6:00 p.m., there will be a Merit Badge Counselor training session. This training must be taken before anyone can be a merit badge counselor. It has no expiration date, but it isn't a bad idea to take a refresher once in a while.
Be on time for this important training because if anyone is more than 10 minutes late, they will have to take the training at another time. It's not fair to those who are on time to have to catch people up.

Shooting Sports News
Fall has been a busy time at the Marin Council shooting ranges. Here is a list of the shooting events that occurred in September and October:
- Sept. 1 - Webelos Woods: The annual Webelos event at Camp Marin Sierra included shooting pellet rifle and archery. Approximately 63 Webelos participated.
- Sept 28 - Cub Scout Adventure Weekend: Wolf through Webelos enjoyed shooting BB rifles, archery, and slingshots at Camp Tamarancho. Approximately 65 Scouts participated.
- October 6 - Tiger Cub Expedition - Tigers enjoyed shooting BB rifles, archery and slingshots at Camp Tamarancho. Approximately 31 Scouts participated.
- October 13 - Marin Troop 73 camped at Tamarancho and spent the day shooting .22 rifles and archery.
- October 20 - East Bay Troop 722 camped and spent the day shooting .22 rifles and archery at Tamarancho.
- October 27 - Halloween/Turkey Shoot: Cubs and Tigers shot BB rifles and archery at Camp Tamarancho. About 50 Cub Scouts participated.
Upcoming November Shooting Events
November 17 - Redwood Empire Troop 74 will be camping and shooting .22 rifles, archery, and throwing tomahawks at Camp Tamarancho.
Range Staff Training Opportunities
A class was held on October 13 to train tomahawk and slingshot range masters. Five adults attended. Thank you for your future help in staffing events.
December 15 - BB Gun Rangemaster Training, 10:30-1:30. This training will certify an adult to run a BB gun range for Cub Scout activities. Become a part of the team that brings hours of enjoyment to Cub Scouts!
Free Shooting Available for Boy Scouts and Venturers
Actually, you would have to pay for .22 ammunition. The shooting sports committee offers a free hour of shooting for every hour spent doing a service project for the ranges. Since there is no charge for pellet ammo, your day could be totally free if you elect to shoot pellet rifles!

Most units have their packets and are gathering information. Start as soon as possible if you have not done so already. We see online that about a dozen units have at least started. Finished rechartering is due on November 15.

Welcome to New Tomales Pack 123
Here is some exciting news for all families in Tomales, Two Rock, and surrounding villages: Scouting is coming to the area through the enthusiasm and effort of Tomales Church member and Eagle Scout Tim Graves.
Thanks to Tim's leadership, Pack 123 was chartered over the summer under the auspices of Tomales Presbyterian Church. The pack's name is a reference to the geographic coordinates of Tomales and Dillon Beach (38.2463° N, 122.9056° W; just about 123° W). Church Elder Eric Knudsen--himself an Eagle Scout--is the charter rep. Pack 123 meets the third Thursday of every month at Tomales Presbyterian Church; the first gathering was held on August 16.
Pack 123 is open to kids from Tomales, Dillon Beach, Two Rock, Valley Ford, Bodega, Salmon Creek, Marshall and other nearby hamlets.
Each month, the activities of the pack and den meetings will vary: campouts are planned for September and February; there are hikes, and a pinewood derby; and for Founders Day in Tomales, Pack 123 will be part of the color guard. They have been practicing in the church sanctuary how to handle the flag of the USA.

Veterans Day Celebration
Celebrate the 100th Commemoration of the Armistice that Ended WWI
Sunday, November 11, 9:30 a.m.
Honor those who have served our country at this free event, and mark the 100th commemoration of the Armistice that ended WWI. Marin's Veterans' Day program will begin in the Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium with music, military exercises, and a brief address. It will continue in front of the World War I, World War II, Korean, Vietnam, and Merchant Marine Memorials on the Avenue of the Flags. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony in the Redwood Foyer.
