The Bear Pride.

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018

Pictured very top:

The marching band participated in the prestigious Bands of America Regional Championships held here in Orlando at Camping World Stadium earlier this month. They competed with 32 bands from around the southeastern region of the country. Cypress Creek was selected to be one of the 10 finalists and ended up being 7th overall. This is a huge honor and something our band hasn't done in 15 years! Recognition is also greatly due to our amazing cheerleaders for their unwavering support!

Cypress Creek High School

More than once I have used this space to share with the community how proud I am to serve as Cypress Creek High School's principal and in three days the 2018-2019 school year will already be 1/3 gone. All you need do is quickly scroll through this issue and you will see why I have such pride in our high school. You see, much of the news of late has not been the best and many citizens seem awfully worried about current events. I think after what you see herein today, you might feel a bit more reassured and inspired. When looking at all the activities our students, teachers, and support staff have going on, it is nearly impossible not to be motivated and hopeful.

Know this Bears. The administration, your teachers, and your coaches are all very proud of you. You're doing great. But please remember, if your 1st quarter grades are not where you need to be, please take advantage of our tutoring opportunities as these weeks are passing so very quickly.

Enjoy the rest of your week and this first taste of fall weather!

In Bear Pride,

Dr. W. John McHale

Bears in Service to Others: "Best Buddies"

The Best Buddies Match party is where student peers meet their new matched buddy! The match party is crucial in the foundation of the newly created friendship: it is the beginning, the first impression, and it is where we test the chemistry between the student peers and the buddies.

This year we wanted to have the theme of masks, because the masks represent the unveiling of your friend. We wanted to encourage everyone to be truthful to who they are, and leave their "masks" behind.

The students could not stop saying how much fun it was!! #GoBears

Cypress Creek FFA - "Building a Legacy Through Agricultural Education"

Our newly formed Cypress Creek FFA traveled to the State FFA Leadership Training Center in Haines City this month to participate in the Chapter Officer Leadership Conference (COLT). The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. FFA is an integral part of agricultural education by helping make classroom instruction come to life through realistic, hands-on applications.

The COLT conference was designed to meet the needs of our chapter officers and provide them with the tools that are necessary for a successful year of service. The COLT experience helped our officer team identify their strengths and weaknesses as a group, and learn advanced interpersonal communication strategies and presentation delivery techniques.

Our officer team, combined with our agricultural science students, are hard at work planning projects to help learn agricultural sciences while advancing their understanding of career skills, such as record keeping and public education. Projects include: building raised bed gardens to grow specialized plants; building ecosystem tanks to educate others on biomes around the world; raising chickens, ducks, and rabbits; reducing food waste through composting; and creating school gardens to promote pollinators.

We are so proud of our inaugural class and thank them for all of their hard work to make this new, exciting program a success!

This Week's Motivational Moment!

WHAT HAPPINESS LOOKS LIKE

One of our Bears with her newly matched "Best Buddy"
(story above)

"Everybody can be great . . .
because anybody can serve. You don't have to
have a college degree to serve.
You don't have to make your subject and verb
agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace.
A soul generated by love."

~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
