"Awesome Gathering. I think it was the best ever. Great crowd and Hale's Bar is really making things work well for us. The floating patio is such a great place for our evening dining and gathering for fun and karaoke." - Roberta Hegy, comment about the Gathering of Glen-L Boatbuilders

Two weekends ago was the 12th annual Gathering of Glen-L Boatbuilders in Guild, Tennessee. According to the initial feedback, it was once again a successful event. It looks like there were well over 20 boats and a whole bunch of great people. Until we get photos and videos together and posted, you can take a look at a wonderful video that Tony (aka Ts9174 on the Forum) took with his drone--click the image below to view.
I've seen people get really creative with where they build their boat because of space constraints. But, I think Doug takes the cake! This is the first boat I've seen built in two halves. You really need to read his story...

Your Feedback

Hi Gayle,

A note to tell you of a fun time had with one of your Tiny Mite boats. In 1964 I purchased one from a gasoline dealer in Inglewood who was having many problems with it. Turned it into a fantastic fun boat: It had a Ford 140 six in it with lots of modifications, ran well but not in the boat.

Reworked motor to a marine setup and fixed the electrical problems, gas tank installation, added cavitation plates and replaced motor with Ford 170 after the 140 exploded.

Cool part was that this 13' boat with a small six pulled 2 skiers with two passengers all over many water ways in California, much fun. Trimmed out, it did 70mph in a 1/4 mi and surprised a lot of people. I still think about the fun we had with "Grumpy".

Keep up the great work.

I spent the month of July making the frames for my Malahini and took August off. September is off to a good start with building the form and hanging the frames. I raised the height of the building form to “bucket height” so I can fair the sheer without getting on my knees. I can sit on a 5 gal. bucket and do it comfortably. This should also make it easier to turn the boat over when the time comes. Your Links Of The Week
Today's link is to an article from a boat builder who converted a Briggs & Stratton motor for marine use. These lawnmower motors are very economical and plentiful, so I hope you'll find this helpful.

Until next time, build more boats...Glen-L boats that is!
