Greetings!
The SLA Board met in Regina in mid-October to have a lively
 discussion and debate about the state and future direction of our organization. The board table is always alive with questions and challenges for one another, for the organization, and for the environment in which we live.
I had the privilege of being a guest on the CBC Radio show,
Blue Sky, on October 16th. It was a great opportunity to talk about libraries publicly, as well as to hear from people around the province about their own experiences visiting their local libraries.
Strategic Planning is well underway and the board is beginning to piece together results of assessments that have happened as a result of the Lifecycles Capacity

Executive Directors Report
Fall is a busy time at SLA as in most other workplaces. In addition to the programs that are supported and delivered, Committee and Conference planning work ramps up. This year we  have the added projects associated with Life Cycles Capacity building, the Public Library Engagement and supporting SLAs broader strategic directions.
1. Life Cycles Capacity Building Project: SLA received support from Sask Culture and the project leaders to assist with transitioning some administrative support functions in-house. B- Creative has and continues to provide an invaluable service and we expect to have an ongoing working relationship. The Life cycles project identified some advantages to building in- house administrative capacity and broadening the current role.

Thank you to all the libraries who participated in Culture Days events. Next year, Culture Days will be celebrating 10 years. The dates will be September 27, 28 and 29 2019. Watch for more information in 2019.
Saskatchewan Library Week has just concluded, the Book Spine Poetry Contest is ending and projects have been completed. For those who weren't able to listen, CBC's Blue Sky program featured an hour of discussion and Questions and Answers about how Libraries Transform. Carol Cooley from SPL and Alison Jantz, SLA's President discussed the changing roles of libraries. You can listen to the broadcast

Freedom to Read Week 2019 is February 24 to March 2, 2019.
SLA is once again offering 10 $200 grants to libraries planning special projects. This is a perfect opportunity for Academic Institutions to take advantage of grants for special projects. The application form is
here. There is also a dropbox full of graphics, including a web banner, that are free to use.
Congratulations to Lisa Bird-Wilson, winner of the RBC Emerging Artist Award which was presented at the 2018 Saskatchewan Arts Awards on October 25th.
Plans are ramping up for One Book, One Province 2019. So far four libraries are confirmed hosts, with another three larger events in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert.Our thanks to SIGA for sponsoring the provincial events.
His Honour the Honourable W. Thomas Molloy, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan has agreed to be the Honorary Patron to the project.
"The Saskatoon downtown library was formative in my early years as my brother and sisters and I regularly attended the children's story-time. Libraries are an important and even life-changing resource. I am very pleased to serve as Honorary Patron of the one book one province initiative, and I applaud the Saskatchewan Library Association and their partners for bringing us together through this shared experience. I am a fan of author Lisa Bird-Wilson's work and I look forward to reading Just Pretending."
We are anticipating holding the launch event at Government House on February 28th.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
