"For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you a hope and a future"
Raising Godly leaders for a country in need
March 2018
Each Saturday morning, 25 men and women from around Kamonkoli arrive at AWANA at Genesis school ready to teach and serve as many children as will come that day. Some days it might be 500 kids, some days it might be over 800. We never quite know, but we know whatever number comes, we will welcome them in.

Some of the children come for the games and entertain-ment they know will be there at AWANA. Some of them come because they are bored at home, or they want to escape the hard work of carrying water or digging in the fields. Some of them come hoping for a chance to claim a 'sweetie.' Some of them come because their friends are going, so they want to also. And now, even more of them are coming now that they know they will get lunch afterwards through a new feeding program sponsored by our partners, One More Child (formerly Orphan's Heart).

But no matter why they think they come, we know why God brings them! He brings them so that their teachers can painstakingly teach them sound by sound and word by word the truth of God's Word, the Bible. He brings them so that each child can hear and understand at least one more truth about who God really is. And He brings them so that these children will learn, understand, and hide His Word deep in their hearts so that it will guide and instruct them all their lives.

Each of the 25 teachers work very hard to help the kids memorize and understand key verses from the Bible like Romans 3:23, John 1:12, Romans 4:5, Ephesians 2:8-9, and many others. They have a big task since many of the kids in their classes speak very little English, and the sheer number of kids.

Each week I look out on the many bodies pressed close and faces lifted up to the teacher. I smile at the many legs and arms fidgeting and squeezing to find even a small space to rest. I see how many bodies and how many minds we have been entrusted with, and sometimes I'm overwhelmed at the task of really teaching and ministering effectively to so many children with such limited resources. But even though the task is huge, I know God has been and will continue to work through this program! We have seen so many children throughout the years credit AWANA with helping them grow in Christ, and I pray there are many more to come!

Thank you for your prayers for the leaders and children being blessed by this wonderful ministry!

Some of our AWANA workers are staff members choosing to work on Saturday. Others are local believers, living in poverty in a village with few job opportunities and many are uneducated. The small stipend we offer these teachers makes life just a little easier for those who otherwise survive primarily through gardening around their homes.

Because of your generous gifts we can offer these wages and stipends to nationals ministering to their community. Ministry funds are vital to the survival of HUM, paying for these needs as well as power and water (when we can get it), generator fuel, maintenance on our buildings and vehicles, programs to the children and community and home office needs that keep this ministry going. When you give to sponsorship and other specific needs we ask that you consider adding a portion for these vital needs or consider an extra annual gift to help. Together we are reaching a community for Christ, offering hope and a future to those who had none before God brought Katherine for that very first visit more than 20 years ago. Many of you have been a part of this ministry for many years and we are so grateful to you for helping us love these children and the community.
You are making a difference!
