Hello Sunshine,

One of my favorite things is to sit and watch. You could call me a people watcher. I remember being a child and how I would love just to watch everyone interact with one another. As I began my yoga practice I learned to sit with myself and observe my sensations, feelings, opinions, and reactions. I am not going to lie when I say that was tough. As I watched and observed myself I saw how I was not the person I wanted to be. Understanding who I was and why I reached and felt the way I did, helped me evolve and change into the person I am and the person I am proud to be.

Why am I getting so deep this morning? One of the biggest questions I ask myself is why? Why is everyone so different and why do people respond or react so differently to the same situation?

I know from my study of yogic principles that we all have different experiences that are developing our samskaras or impressions from the world that influence us deep within. They are not good or bad they just are.

These samskaras influence how we see the world and how we react or respond. We will take a closer look this week in my classes and I invite you to take a pause or a beat this week and see why. Why you feel this way or that way before you respond. It could be your feelings in a yoga pose or any situation. This observation is called self-study or svadyaya.

Thursday is earth day and Saturday Mallory is hosting an Earth Day practice. There are spots still available so check out more information below.

This week's #SunshinePoseoftheWeek is STANDING SPLIT pose or Urdhva (upward) Prasarita (wide stance) Eka (one) Padasana (foot pose). This pose is an inversion because our head dips below our heart and is great for changing our perspective. There are many different ways to get into a standing split. Place your hands on the ground in front of you, ground down in the standing foot and the other foot lifts to the ceiling behind you. Look past your standing leg, release your jaw and let the muscles in your neck relax, soften the forehead. You can point the lifted toes or flex the foot. Try to soften one knee and then the other.

Notice your sensations and then how it makes you feel. Breathe with a full complete breath, take time to inhale and exhale, all of the way. Notice how you react here and you are practicing svadhyaya and working on one of our Niyamas and one of the eight limbs of yoga.

Find the best version of your standing split pose for your body and show us and post on social media. Use the hashtags
#sunshineposeoftheweek #sunshinetribe and @sunshineyogashack. Without the hashtag and studio tag, I may not see your entry. Every post you make is an entry. There are 4 weeks and 4 poses before we draw the winner. The winner will be able to choose a new Manduka yoga mat or bolster from Manduka.com.
