'Wenty' lights up for Diwali Festival
Cumberland Council is celebrating Diwali - the Hindu Festival of Light - with a night of live entertainment, performances and street stalls on Saturday 17 November along Station Street, Wentworthville.
The festival reflects Council's commitment to maintaining and nurturing a sense of belonging for people of all backgrounds in Cumberland. Hinduism is the third most popular religion in the area and one in three residents of Wentworthville identify as Hindu.
"Council's Diwali festival celebrates an event close to the heart of one of Cumberland's largest communities and brings a taste of the Sub-Continent to Western Sydney,"

Cherry Blossom Festival wins best major event in Australia
After winning 'Major Event of the Year' at the Parks and Leisure Australia's Regional Awards of Excellence earlier this year, the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival has taken out the top award at the 2018 International Parks and Leisure Congress held in Melbourne.

Community Services Access Hub launches in Wentworthville
Wentworthville Community Centre will be transformed into a one-stop-shop for residents seeking information, advice or referrals from service providers under a pilot program launched on Monday 29 October. The service will be delivered on the last Monday of the month from 11.30am - 2pm. During this time residents will be able to access housing services, Council, NSW Police, legal services, welfare services and more.

Annual Garden Competition in Full Bloom
Council is inviting the youngest budding green thumbs through to the most experienced garden gurus to enter Cumberland's third Annual Garden Competition. Entries are open until 2 November 2018 and there are six categories to choose from: Open Garden; Native Garden; Commercial / Industrial; Small Garden; Schools and Community Grounds; and Senior Citizens' Garden.

Nominate a local hero for Australia Day
Nominations for the 2019 Cumberland Citizen of the Year Awards remain open until Friday 9 December. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Cumberland Council website. The awards are separated into three categories:
- Citizen of the Year (Over 26 years)
- Young Citizen of the Year (30 years and under)
- Senior Citizens of the Year (65 years and over)

Local artists invited to create their ideal Cumberland
The artistic community of Cumberland, from professional painters to weekend poets and everything in between, are invited to have their say on how Council can support local artists.
An online survey is open until Friday 2 November 2018, with the results to inform how Council will plan and deliver its arts and cultural services, programs and infrastructure.

Council is inviting all residents to attend a free energy savings and solar workshop on to hear from industry experts on ways to reduce electricity and gas costs in the home, and go into the draw to win a home energy assessment.

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held across Cumberland, with most taking place on 11 November at 11am. The event has special significance this year as it marks 100 years since the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914-18).
