  • Dickinson County Heritage Center - 9am-4pm

  • Eisenhower Presidential Library Museum and Boyhood Home - 9am-5:45 pm

  • Greyhound Hall of Fame Museum - 9am-4:45pm
  • Seelye Mansion - 9am-4pm
Ride the Rails Through Kansas' Countryside on this Historic Train

What could be more calming for a Kansan than enjoying a scenic ride through our beautiful state? One full of history, of course! The only way we could make it better is by traveling by train. There are passenger trains in Kansas that still operate like they did all those years ago. Why not ride a historic train while you still can? The view is simply amazing.

Declaration of Independence Reading Ceremony
July 4, 2018
10 AM - 11 AM
Visitors Center Auditorium

  • Greetings by master of ceremonies Allison Seymour, Fox 5 News Anchor
  • Presentation of colors by the Continental Color Guard*
  • Live performance of the National Anthem by vocalist Caleb Green
  • Performance by the Fife and Drum Corps*
  • Remarks by David S. Ferriero, Archivist of the United States
  • Dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence by reenactors portraying historical characters, including Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Abigail Adams, John Dunlap, John Hancock, and Ned Hector
  • Live performance of "America the Beautiful" by The MusicianShip Washington Youth Choir
* Continental Color Guard and Fife and Drum Corps provided by U.S. 3rd Infantry, the Old Guard.
Abilene Municipal Band Annual 4th of July Concert

Wednesday, July 4 @ 8 pm

Come listen as the Abilene Municipal Band plays patriotic tunes and marches, then stay for the fireworks show. Bring your lawn chairs or sit in your car. Either way, it's going to be a great concert. It's something the kids will enjoy as well, so bring them along.

Reminder: Personal fireworks are not permitted on public property.

All performances are in Eisenhower Park at the Royer Band Shell.

Special event - Governor Nehemiah Green, Portrayed by Nolan Sump

7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Nolan Sump, of the Kansas Alliance of Historical Reenactors, presents, Governor Nehemiah Green. Green was the fourth governor of Kansas and served a short term from 1868-1869. Green fought in the Civil War, became a minister and taught military drill tactics at Kansas State Agricultural College. 

Agricultural historian Nolan Sump moves over to the political realm with his first person portrayal of one of Kansas's forgotten governors.
