The Mittal Institute engages in interdisciplinary research to advance and deepen the understanding of critical issues of South Asia and its relationship to the world. Our weekly newsletter highlights the work of the institute and its affiliates. This special edition focuses on our extensive Arts Program.
Aman Kaleem, a Delhi-based filmmaker, is one of the four South Asian artists selected as 2018/19 Visiting Fellows at The Mittal Institute. At Harvard, she will explore the use of new visual technologies to create films that are truly immersive experiences.

An opportunity to meet Visiting Artist Fellows Aman Kaleem and Samsul Alam Helal , and hear them talk about their work and Harvard plans. The Visiting Artist Fellowship (VAF) is an eight-week research opportunity that connects artists from South Asia to Harvard’s intellectual resources.

The next Artist Talk in our India Seminar Series features Kabi Raj Lama (pictured), a Nepal-based artist and printmaker and former Visiting Artist Fellow at the Mittal Institute. Lama will talk about his direct experiences of major natural disasters and his realizations about mental health.

Sunil Hirani is a collector of South Asian art, and will soon join The Mittal Institute’s Arts Council. The Indian-American businessman displays works by Tyeb Mehta, FN Souza, MF Husain and others at his home in Connecticut, as well as much older, classical pieces. Here, he discusses the importance of conserving South Asia’s artistic heritage.
