FIRST DAY FOR STUDENTS MOVED TO SEPTEMBER 8th

At the August 12th Board of Education meeting, the School Board voted to accept my recommendation to move the first day of remote learning to Tuesday, September 8th. This will help us to better prepare for remote learning with our students.

Please be aware of the following dates as we adjust our schedule for the start of school:
  • August 17-21  |  Staff Professional Development
  • August 24-26  |  Diagnostic Test Preparations, Special Meetings
  • August 26-28  |  Chromebook, Textbook, Schedule Distribution
  • August 27-28  |  KRA Testing (Kindergarten)
  • August 31- September 2  |  i-Ready Testing (Grades K-6)
  • September 3-4  |  Soft Start, Follow Remote Schedule and Meet Your Teachers
  • September 8  |  Remote Learning Begins
Building Principals will be mailing other critical information to families regarding the start of school for your student, including the online remote learning schedule for his or her building.

LEARNING CENTERS  |  We are in the preliminary stages of developing community-based Online Learning Centers which mirror the virtual learning schedules of our students. We will be surveying parents of students in grades K-6 to identify the areas of greatest need. I want to thank the Mayors of our three Villages for their commitment to assisting us in developing these sites as a support system for our working families

IEPs and 504 PLANS  |  Case Managers will be reaching out to parents whose students have IEPs and 504 plans to discuss details of how accommodations and modifications will be met in the remote learning environment.

CVCC STUDENTS  |  All of our career center students were contacted regarding transportation needs, which will be following specific CVCC guidelines. If you have not been notified of transportation procedures for your student, please contact Mr. Janatovich. The career center officially opens on August 19.

CLARIFICATIONS ON REMOTE LEARNING  |  I've mentioned most of this previously, but I want to reiterate some important points as we get closer to September 8th:
  • I did not commit to an end date for remote learning, such as a quarter or semester.  My goal is, and always has been, to return our students to our buildings safely as soon as possible. If that time is shorter than 9 weeks, then I want to be prepared to make that change and get our students back in our buildings.  Please note that I will provide advance notice to make that change. In other words, I will not send out an "all call" on a Friday to return the following Monday. This is to ensure that families and staff have adequate time to prepare for that transition. I am in conversation with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health every Friday, along with superintendents from across Northeast Ohio, to directly gain the latest updates and information.
  • Our teachers are leading the district's interactive remote instruction. Therefore, when you receive your child's class and remote learning schedules, that instruction will be delivered by our own exceptional staff.
  • When students transition back to the buildings for in-school instruction, building principals will share specifics of the dynamics of the various learning options for their school.
  • We will be using a communication application called Remind for consistent two-way communication between school and home.  It is imperative that all of the information you have input into Final Forms is up-to-date and accurate as that is the database that feeds our contact information system.
CONTACT US  |  We are transitioning away from [email protected] so that parents can contact the members of the administrative team directly with questions. Here are each member's email:

ALUMNI NEWS  |  Congratulations to Class of 2018 graduate Kendra Lindway, now a Kent State University student-athlete, who has been named an Academic All-American for the second consecutive year. You can read more about her accomplishment at this link. Way to Go Kendra!!!!!!!!!!
