It’s an awesome moment when we encounter these magnificent critters in the woods, however, NH Fish & Game Warden cautions: Please don’t feed the bears… secure your trash and tuck way the bird feeders until there’s snow on the ground and the Black Bears have settled in for their long winter’s nap.

As strange and challenging as these times are, it is still very much a “Sunapee Summer” and we are beyond grateful for that. Optimist friend recently commented that this summer has almost been like taking a remote vacation with our family and dearest of friends in a favorite place. It has provided us with an opportunity to reflect on how truly fortunate we are to be living in this incredible corner of New Hampshire and taking stock of and tending to what’s truly important in our lives. Optimism is the one quality more associated with success and happiness than any other. We hope that wherever you are, you and yours are safe, well and thriving despite the uncertainty all around us.

Beginning Thursday, August 6th, Billings Farm & Museum’s second annual Sunflower House will be open for visitors to explore and bask in the beauty of this garden. Thousands of sunflowers and over 50 different varieties ranging from 18 inches to 14 feet in height form the rooms and hallways in a maze-like structure. This year’s design is a one-way flow that allows for social distancing and safe enjoyment. In addition to its beauty, the Sunflower House serves as a food source for birds, bees and butterflies.

Theo Jansen is among the most gifted engineers out there, and his otherworldly creations are (almost) living proof!
The Dutch sculptor specializes in building works of art that move on their own. For 30 years, he has transformed plastic tubes and lemonade bottles into what he sees as a new kind of life-form. He calls his skeletal masterpieces Strandbeests, or “beach animals,” because of the way they glide across the sand and draw power from the wind.
“They evolved over many generations, becoming increasingly adept at surviving storms and water from the sea,” his website reads. “In redoing this creation, [Theo] hopes to become wiser in the dealing with the existing nature by encountering problems the real Creator had to face.”
Check out some strange, beautiful Strandbeests in the video below, and don’t forget to share these fascinating “creatures” with your friends.

“Toy Story” is sold out.
However, you can show up the night of the movie and, if we have pods available, we can assign as per NH’s social distancing guidelines allow.
Show starts at dusk. (approximately 8:00 pm)
Last week's "Jurassic Park" was enjoyed by many from their 'pods'.
Thank you for following the guidelines and making this a fun family event for everyone.

There is no better illustration of music providing hope and optimism in the most desperate of times, than this video from Beirut following the explosion that devastated the city.

… and, just for the fun of it… Pluto, the talking Schnauzer is back... this time with some tongue twisters.

May we sing together, always
May our voice be soft
May our singing be music for others
and may it keep others aloft.
Sing gently always
Sing gently as one.
May we stand together, always
May our voice be strong
May we hear the singing and
may we always sing along.
Sing gently always
Sing gently as one.
