Sara Marcus has been a vital part of the Board of Young Professionals since she joined three years ago. Her leadership, kindness, hard work and passion for the families and children in our community make such a difference for all those touched by SCAN. We are thankful for Sara and excited for this year with her serving as President of the Board of Young Professionals.
What inspires you to stay involved with your work at SCAN?
After moving to Richmond, I immediately felt a deep connection to the community. In a city of Richmond’s size, everyone is so linked. We all want children in our community to grow up in healthy, happy family environments and to have the opportunity to heal and recover when children and families suffer traumatic events. SCAN provides this opportunity to families and children across our region.
I’ve also been inspired to stay involved with the BYP because it is such an energetic and passionate group. Hearing stories from staff about the lives SCAN touches is so impactful. As the incoming BYP President, I was able to help interview new member for this year. Hearing all the stories about how people learned about SCAN and became interested in the BYP was inspiring. From former CASA volunteers to people who have been to our events to neighbors who walk by the SCAN office everyone has a unique story.
