Apologies!!!! I
t has been brought to my attention that some record books state that they must be in by October 1stwhile others say October 15th. I have revised the date below to be fair to all. We will standardize this for 2019.
Completed record books MUST be handed in to the 4-H office no later than
October 15th
.
Youth who do not hand in record books will be deemed not to have completed their 4-H year :( The books will be evaluated by a team of volunteers during October before being returned. The best Cloverbud (5-7), Junior (8-12) and Senior (13-19) will receive awards!
Why is this important?
Funding from the County is provided to support the 4-H program. To secure funding we need to meet outcomes. Record Books are evidence of 4-H'ers communication and record keeping skills, financial literacy, community service and achievements. No outcomes - no funding!
So, Leaders and parents, please encourage your youth to get them completed and to the office on time.

CHAZY, N.Y. -- Dr. Temple Grandin will give an agriculture talk on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 pm at the Beekmantown High School gymnasium. Dr. Grandin’s talk will be geared toward animal behavior, but the talk is free and open to the public. The event is co-hosted by Beekmantown High School.

Promote Your Club
The Rhinebeck Farmers' Market (RFM) is booking their community booth for 2019 dates. Please contact Andrea Bartolomeo via email at
info@rhinebeckfarmersmarket.com
.
The RFM offers non-profit and community groups a space in the market free of charge for one date per season, schedule permitting. The booth is to be used to inform the public about your organization and about upcoming events. Raffles and sales are prohibited, however you may provide information and direct people to where they may purchase items related to your organization. A donation box is also allowed.

LaGrange Fall Harvest Festival: Promote agriculture, and 4-H
This is a very well attended event and is a great opportunity to promote what you do and recruit members. Some of you were there last year as part of the Farm Fun Zone. Contact Sandy to participate - see below....

Volunteers Needed to Support Agriculture

Have fun, learn and do a good thing!
Winnakee Land Trust is working on it’s 12
th
annual Tour of Historic Barns and Working Farms program. This event provides participants with a map that takes them to 8 (mostly private) properties in northern Dutchess County. We welcome motorcyclists, cyclists, and those in cars on the tour, which takes about 5 hours to complete.
I’m writing to ask if you may have some 4H participants who would be interested in volunteering at this event: 5-10 helpers to be at each farm/barn to welcome visitors and distribute information on the property, as well as offer refreshments. All volunteers are welcome to attend the after-party for dinner and live music.
The event is Saturday, October 13. The tour begins at 11:00 am and the after-party begins at 4:30 (immediately follows the tour).

FALL LEADERS FORUMS
Club Leaders and Co-Leaders are required to attend a fall meeting and a spring meeting so as to stay up-to-date and play an active part in how 4-H is run. We will have a volunteer thank you event at a different time - more to follow.

Enrollment Due September 30th
Youth
Completed youth membership forms, with $25 fee, must be to the 4-H Office by September 30th for youth to be enrolled and insured to participate in activities.
Leaders, Co-Leaders and Project Leaders/Instructors
Volunteer agreement/code of contact forms must be signed annually - leaders who enrolled in the last 2 months are exempt.

Strengthening Families
is a 7 week program aimed at helping parents/guardians with youth ages 10-14 communicate better, and build a stronger relationship. Starting on Oct 3, it is free to qualified applicants.
