WELCOME TO THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR!
Dear Families of LNC Middle School Students,
On behalf of the Lake Norman Charter Middle School faculty and staff, Assistant Principal Mr. Bauer, and the administrative team, welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! It continues to be my honor to serve as principal of the middle school. The administrative team looks forward to building and maintaining our partnership with you. Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your student with an academic experience that emphasizes high expectations, a rigorous curriculum and purposeful opportunities to cultivate leadership skills that embody our mission to learn, lead and serve.

Hopefully you have taken the opportunity to view our School Reopening FAQ’s already. We provided information over the past two months via our Summer Updates and Schoology posts. This letter provides additional valuable information to our MS families to assist in the opening to the school year. Please read it carefully and thoroughly and do not hesitate to contact me (cgraham@lncharter.org) with any questions.

Student schedules were made available Wednesday, August 5, via Schoology. If your MS student is new to Lake Norman Charter, they should have received login information to their Schoology account when they picked up their iPad on Monday, August 3. If you were unable to pick up your iPad, you should have received an email from Mr. Brian Bauer, Assistant Principal. If you did not receive an email, please contact him at bbauer@lncharter.org. Ms. Marianne Rogowski, our Instructional Technology Facilitator, developed Schoology training lessons for parents to assist with the start of school. They can be found in the Resources section of the Schoology group LNC2MSP (join code 2MB34-KX3ZB) in the Schoology folder and are called Level I Parent Training and Level II Parent Training. If you have questions, contact Ms. Rogowski at mrogowski@lncharter.org.

If your child didn’t receive a preferred elective, it likely was not available. We needed to schedule for an eventual return to school under a Plan B scenario (2 cohorts), which greatly complicated scheduling this year. We appreciate your understanding as we are working tirelessly to ensure staff and student safety.

We are proudly in year seven of LNC’s 1:World Program and we appreciate our parent partnership. Please pay your student's $125 co-pay at lncharter.org via the MS PayPal portal by August 12.

Pre-ordered EduKit school supply kits will be available for pickup on Tuesday, August 11 from 11:00AM-1:00PM. Please refer to the Schoology post to MSP2P (join code TGH4Z-CF6PB) on August 5 for further details.

Art pack supply kits will be distributed on the same day, August 11, from 10:00AM-1:00PM and should be paid for prior to August 11 using this link: https://www.lncharter.org/Page/2013. Please bring your printed receipt or be prepared to show your receipt on your device.

School begins Thursday, August 13! Our start time is 8:00AM. Student enrollment is critical to ensuring that students are engaged with their teacher and curriculum is successful from day one. This student enrollment is also crucial to our school’s funding. As such, failure to check-in without prior communications to either Jennifer Wolfe (jwolfe@lncharter.org) or me for an excused reason could result in the student forfeiting their spot at LNC.

We understand that remote learning is not conducive to all students; however, our teachers have been equipped with resources to make the remote learning experience impactful. In response to concerns raised regarding the fourth quarter’s remote learning experience, we have modified our virtual learning schedule.

Middle School
Remote Learning Schedule

Period #1: 8:00-8:40
Period #2: 8:45-9:25
Morning Break: 9:30-10:00
Period #3: 10:00-10:40
Period #4: 10:45-11:25
Period #5: 11:30-12:10
Lunch: 12:10-1:00
Office Hours: 1:00-2:00
The main campus entrance is being repaired and reconstructed to better serve carpool as part of the Elevate LNC capital project.
This will be the schedule for Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday. Student Seminars will occur every Wednesday. On Wednesday, students will not follow a specific schedule, but rather utilize the day as an opportunity for more individualized check-in's with their teachers, either remotely or in the building. For attendance, they will need to check-in with their homeroom teacher by 9:00AM.

The Principal’s Coffee Chats will continue this year. They will be held on the second Tuesday of every month from 8:15-9:15AM. To acclimate you to the new school year, we encourage you to "attend" our beginning of the year coffee chats. Our first chats will be Tuesday, September 8 for 5th grade parents and Wednesday, September 9 for 6th-8th grade parents. Our chats will be virtual until an in-person option is available. In case you were unable to view our last Coffee Chat on August 4, here is the link.

We are currently working on plans for a modified “Back to School Night.” We will share details in the upcoming weeks.

Let me take a moment to introduce our newest MS staff members:

Mr. Carl Bledsoe - 7th grade ELA
Ms. Leigh Anne Painter - 6th grade EC
Ms. Cindy Perrotta - Media Specialist
Ms. Marianne Rogowski - Instructional Technology Facilitator
Ms. Kara Rosenberg - 6th grade ELA
Mr. James Walker - Spanish

In addition, Ms. Sarah Cannon will serve as Ms. Sarah Joplin's long-term substitute while she is out being a new mommy. Finally, Mr. Tim Venable will serve as Ms. Sue Hammond’s long-term substitute until we hire her replacement. We will miss her and wish her the best as she pursues another chapter in her life.

We are definitely in uncharted territory this school year, having to start remotely. Your students will receive virtual introductions from teachers and staff members before the start of school. We will also provide opportunities for all students new to LNC to tour the building prior to the implementation of Plan B, should that occur. We cannot be successful this school year without working TOGETHER! As a staff, we will seek opportunities to support each other and welcome you to partner with us. Each of you has something positive to contribute to help LNC remain the best educational choice for your family. I pray that you remain safe and well.

Yours in education,
Dr. Cherié Graham, MS Principal
