York Catholic Fund
York Catholic has continued to offer our students a competitive, top notch education for over 90 years. While tuition helps to keep our school running on a daily basis, it is the York Catholic Fund that provides the resources we need to further support our students, teachers, programs, and school facilities. And so, as we begin this academic year, we ask you to consider a donation toward our 2020-2021 appeal. Every gift, whatever the amount, counts and is truly valued. Please click on the "Make a Difference" Donate button below to use our online donation page. Thank you for caring and giving!

Looking for a Tax Break?
York Catholic is excited to share some information with you that is sure to change how you view paying your state and federal taxes each year!

If you pay personal state income taxes, you now have the opportunity (whether filing individually or jointly) to choose how these taxes are spent each year by joining a Special Purpose Entity (SPE). SPEs are based on tax liability, not income, therefore each taxpayer's situation will differ. An individual or couple filing jointly must have a state tax liability of $3,500 or more to participate. To see if you qualify for 2020, you can find your PA tax liability on Form PA-40 Line 12 of your 2019 tax return.

You could receive at least a 10% deduction on your personal federal taxes each year, so why not have your personal state income taxes serve as tuition assistance funds, allowing more students to thrive at York Catholic High School?
If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please follow these steps:
All SPE funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so NOW is the time to submit your Joinder Agreement for the 2020 Tax Year!

For more information about this easy tax donation, please contact Katie Seufert, York Catholic Principal, at [email protected].

All Back-to-School forms should be completed online no later than Monday, August 24.  It should only take approximately 5 minutes to complete the forms.

The Back-to-School online forms can be found on the VISION Parent Portal.

Parents of incoming 7th graders will receive instructions next week on how to set-up a VISION Parent Portal account in a mailed packet along with class schedules.  Parents of students new to YC in grades 8-12 will receive an email this week with instructions on how to set-up a VISION Parent Portal account.  If you do not receive this information, please contact Mrs. Deb Gingerich at [email protected].

Parents of students who have attended YC prior to the 2020-21 school year should use their existing VISION Parent Portal account. Do not create a new account.  If you did not set-up a Parent account since your child has been a student at YC, please email Mrs. Deb Gingerich at [email protected] for instructions.

Click here to access the VISION Parent Portal.  You can also access VISION by visiting the York Catholic website at www.yorkcatholic.org and clicking the VISION icon located in the bottom right corner.  It is also available under Quick Links or in the Announcements section on the home page.

Once you sign-in to your VISION Parent Portal, follow these steps:
  • Click MORE in the upper right corner.
  • Select FORMS.
  • Click on the yellow CONTINUE button under the Student(s) Name.
  • You will need to click on all of the links (one at a time) to complete the online forms process.
  • Once you click SUBMIT, please allow time for the software to process before closing.
PLEASE NOTE:
If FORMS is not showing as an option for you, it indicates you are internally listed on your student(s) profile as "Contact 2." At this time, Contact 2 cannot make changes online. If you, as Contact 2, have changes to your name, address, phone number, or email address, please contact Mrs. Deb Gingerich at [email protected]. Any changes made to Contact 2 online by Contact 1 will be verified.
Required Paperwork for Chromebooks
To expedite Chromebook distribution, we are asking families to complete the Chromebook form and send it with your child on the first day of school.  Please be sure to make an insurance selection and that both the parent/guardian and the student sign the form.  Students with completed forms will receive their Chromebooks the first day of school.  Please click here for the Chromebook Acceptable Use Policy and Agreement form.
Student Schedules
Students' requests for courses were subject to approval by teachers.  With few exceptions, these requests have been honored.  Barring computer errors, we do not foresee a necessity to change rosters in September.  Schedules for incoming 7th graders will be mailed the week of August 10. All other new students will receive their schedules at New Student Orientation on Wednesday, August 12.  Students in grades 8-12 will be able to access their schedules online through their Vision portal the week of August 10.  Anyone with an outstanding balance will not have access to a schedule until their balance is paid.  Any request for a course change must be accompanied by a written parental request, teacher approval (as originally needed), and a $25.00 Late Roster Change Fee.  Since the Master Roster is built according to the original registration of students, we cannot guarantee admission to particular classes.  For incoming new students, if an error has been made in placement, teachers will initiate the needed change and no fee will be assessed.  Students requesting schedule changes must do so during the Add Drop period, which ends September 18, and no changes will be made after that date.  Level changes, however, will be considered into the first quarter at the discretion of the subject teacher for any student who has been inaccurately placed in a course.

Personal Electronic Devices
Personal electronic devices (cell phones, smartwatches, etc.) may only be used at the teacher's discretion during classes. For test security purposes, teachers may ask students to turn their devices off and lay them on the desk. Unauthorized use of personal electronic devices between 8:10 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the school day, will result in the device being removed from the student's possession and taken to the Dean of Students.  Students who violate the electronic policy will receive disciplinary consequences. The administration has the right to search contents of any device if cause is warranted.  The school will not assume responsibility for the recovery of student electronic devices that are lost, stolen, damaged, or confiscated. If students have an emergency during the school day, they may use a phone in the main office.  If parents must contact a student during the school day due to an emergency, they should call the main office.

Attendance
Absence:  Attendance is required of all enrolled students during the days and hours school is in session.  Parents/Guardians have the responsibility of ensuring their students attend and remain in school daily.  Students may be excused for temporary absences when satisfactory evidence is provided to warrant a reasonable cause for the absence.  Since daily instruction of material by the teacher is essential in our educational system, an absence of even one more day may, understandably, result in lower grades.

More than ten days of accumulated absence is considered excessive.  This limit does not include pre-approved educational trips or absence due to a death in the family.  After 10 accumulated days of absence (excused and/or unexcused combined), a physician's excuse will be required for each additional absence (partial day or full day).  Students with a history of chronic absence may be required to provide a physician's excuse prior to the accumulation of 10 days.

All Absences (within one school calendar year):
  • 7 absences within the school year - An email or letter will be sent to the parent/guardian intended to raise awareness and identify root causes for the absences and explain the physician's note requirement if absences exceed 10 days.
  • 10 days throughout the school year - An email or letter will be sent to the parent/guardian informing them a Physician's Note will be required for all future absences.  Physician's notes must be on Official Physician's Office stationary.  A note from a doctor/dentist does not guarantee the absence(s) will be excused.
Unexcused Absences (within one school calendar year):
  • 2 unexcused days throughout the school year - a personal contact will be made to the parent/guardian via phone call to raise awareness and establish your preferred language and mode of communication.
  • 3 illegal (unexcused) days throughout the school year - written notice of truancy will be made to the parent/guardian.  An Attendance Improvement Conference will be recommended.
  • 4-5 illegal days throughout the school year - An Attendance Improvement Conference will be required at which time an Attendance Improvement Plan will be developed.  Truancy citations may be filed.
  • 6 illegal days throughout the school year - Referrals may be made to the York County Children and Youth.  Truancy citations may be filed.  Parents may be cited for truant students 14 years of age and under.  Parents and/or the child may be cited for truant students 15-16 years old.

Chromebook Acceptable Use Policy
All communication and information that is generated on a student issued Chromebook is subject to review by administrators at York Catholic High School.  Students may be asked to turn in Chromebooks for investigation where misuse is suspected to have occurred.
School Board Financial Policy
The following School Board policy is written to ensure the financial stability of the school. Families should be aware of the following guidelines regarding tuition and fees:

If a student is remiss in the payment of tuition, fees, service hours, or other outstanding obligations, his/her report card and Vision access will be withheld. In addition, students whose tuition accounts are 60 days past due will not be permitted to participate in activities outside of the regular school day hours. Students whose tuition accounts are 90 days or more past due may not be permitted to attend York Catholic until balances are rectified. Any inquiry regarding tuition and fees should be directed to the attention of the Business Office.

Medical Requirements for Back-to-School
Immunizations
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has established school immunization requirements for all students.  The regulations are intended to ensure that children attending school in PA are adequately protected against potential outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.  A child must have the required medically-appropriate vaccines or a plan to complete those vaccines or risk exclusion from school.

Children in grades 7-12 need the following immunizations for attendance:
  • 4 doses of tetanus * (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)
  • 4 doses of diphtheria* (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)
  • 4 doses of acellular pertussis* (1 dose on or after 4th birthday)
  • 4 doses of polio (4th dose on or after 4th birthday and at least 6 months after previous dose given)
  • 2 doses of measles, mumps, and rubella (usually given as MMR)
  • 3 doses of hepatitis B
  • 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity
  • 2 doses meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)
  • 1st dose is given 11-15 years of age; a 2nd dose is required at age 16 or entry into 12th grade.
  • If the dose was given at 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required.
  • 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) - age 11 or older
*   Usually given as DTaP or DTP or DT or Td

If you submitted doctor's documentation of the administration of these vaccines previously, you do not need to repeat this step unless an additional booster or immunization is needed or has been given in the past year.  (Students entering grades 10, 11, & 12 - please note the dose requirements for the MCV vaccine.)  All new students must submit doctor's documentation of the dates the above doses were administered to the York Catholic nurse by August 20.  If any of the required immunizations will not be given by August 20, please click here for the PLAN form to detail the dates the immunizations are scheduled to be given.

Under Pennsylvania state law, students without the required immunizations or a plan with scheduled dates of administration on file, cannot be admitted to school.

If you have any questions, please contact Sarah DeLuca, York Catholic nurse, at 717-846-8871 x321 or [email protected] or consult the PA Department of Health website at https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/programs/immunizations/Pages/School.aspx.
