Azerbaijan Team Triumph!
As hosts to the annual Azerbaijan V Georgia Friendship trophy the teams were blessed with exceptional weather for both days of play this past weekend. Proceedings were underway at the “GYM Bar” on Friday evening with a player gathering to announce the pairings for the Saturday morning Four ball matches. A big thanks to Derek Grimley from Caley Energy for sponsoring this welcome reception and for Dave Kavanagh from the GYM Bar for their fantastic hospitality!
Saturday Morning (Fourball Better Ball)
A fast start for Dreamland Golf Club with early gains in the first few matches – first points were posted by the pairing of Les and Parviz Muradov who recorded a 7&6 win with Les halving the 12th hole for victory (however Parviz supported by parring the first 10 and birding the 11th). Wade and Nick McDonald had a convincing win (5&4) over Derek Grimley and Neil Youngs in match 2. The Azeri team of Ilgar and Khalil gave players Moon and Choi a masterclass with a win (3&1). Narrow wins for Billy and Callum (1up) and a tie for Dean and Leo against the Tbilisi Professional Paul Pohi and Jean – Patrick. The final match of Alistair Macduff and Elman was won (5&4) giving Dreamland a “Dream Start” 5.5pts to 0.5pt.
Saturday Afternoon (Foursomes)
The alternate shot format of foursomes really relies on you knowing your partners strengths, as you try and navigate the ball around the course.
An early fight back by Tbilisi from our “gifted players” Dave Kavanagh and Bruce Bisset with a 3&2 victory over Les and Alistair Macduff was shortly cancelled out as Ilgar and Parviz won their match (2&1). Close matches followed with Wade and Callum drawing against Andro and Neil before Tbilisi secured a win for Jean Patrick and Qartlos against Leo and Khalil. The final games went to the home side as Nick and Elman and Dean and Billy all won their games (3&2).
Day 1 Side contests Sponsored by Caley Energy - Nearest the Pin on hole 5 Alistair Macduff, Nearest the Pin hole 10 Elman Rzayev, Nearest the Pin hole 17 Dean McEwan, Longest Drive hole 12 Leo Troup. After Day One The Match Result was Dreamland GC 9pts Tbilisi Hills 3pts.
Sunday (Singles)
With 12pts to play for on the final day nothing can be taken for granted as the teams assembled for a 10am shotgun start. Well done to our Singles winners Parviz (8&7), Dean (7&6), Ilgar (4&3), Elman (4&3), Nick(3&2), Les (2up), Callum (1up), Billy, Wade and Khalil with a wrist injury gaining a ½ pt in his match. The final day dominance gave Dreamland a monumental win ensuring the Quaich trophy is returned to Dreamland.

October 26th 2019 – Saturday Roll Up Results
Due to Dremland vs Tbilisi Hills friendship match, only 13 players took part in last week’s Saturday Roll Up. Paul Makey took first place with 5 under par 41 points. Iain Grant took second place with 3 under par 39 points and John Bruce’s level par 36 points were enough for him to take third place. Last Saturday two players had 2s on their card - Graham Beattie birdied the 10th and John Bruce birdied the 17th hole to put 2 on his scorecard.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
We would like to wish all our “Birthday Ballers!” the very best wishes as they celebrate in November. Go easy on them out on the course and make sure you treat them to a drink on their special day.
Parman’s Review
Golf Operations Supervisor Parviz Muradov has recently been involved in refreshing our Dreamland Hire Clubs. With the launch of Taylormade in Baku the timing was perfect for us to add in some of the recent M6 range for our guests to enjoy. A Taylormade player, Parviz has used his current R11’s to great affect reducing his handicap to 11.3. On test for the club match against Tbilisi Hills, Parman was undefeated in his matches which include a run of 10 pars and a birdie to secure the win 7&6 win on day one. His form in the Sunday singles was much the same winning his first 9 holes, finishing the match on 11th hole with score of 8&7 – naturally he gives most of the credit to these M6 clubs :)

First Impression – Due to the bigger head than my current R11’s the M6 looked even more forgiving with the irons even at the address.  The set has the benefit of Hybrid and also an “A” approach wedge which ensures you really do have a club for all distances.
On Course Playability - I hit them higher than my own clubs, which helped the ball to sit on the greens. It’s clear that Taylormade’s most recent technology has increased the carry distances by up to 2 clubs, i.e I am now hitting a 9 iron, where I was previously using 7 for that same distance. Getting used to the Approach and Sand wedge didn’t take long at all and great to see these so forgiving as opposed to my Titleist Vokey wedges which I current use. For me the 4 Hybrid was a fantastic club, for fairways and Par 3 tee shots – the M6 Driver and fairway also hit the ball further.
Final Verdict ***** Incredible, I would recommend everyone to give them a try, we have both regular and stiff shafted Hire Clubs. As a launch offer we would like to extend a FREE 18 Hole test to any of our members for the M6 irons. They could make a perfect Christmas Gift!
ACADEMY NEWS
Tour News
Last weekend in Japan Tiger Woods equalled Sam Snead’s record of 82 PGA Tour titles when he won the Zozo Championship. Woods first win on tour came in 1996 at a tournament in Las Vegas and his most recent, prior to last weekend, the US Masters in April. Since his comeback and 15th major title earlier this year there has been speculation as to how much the fairytale victory at Augusta had effected him both physically and mentally. With news in August of yet more surgery on his knee, many feared it could be the end of his career. However, by winning in such style and moving up to 6 in the world golf rankings, Tiger appears back on track to possibly equal or even surpass Jack Nicklaus's 18 major titles. Augusta 2020 I'm sure can't come quick enough for arguably the game's greatest ever golfer.
Ladies Par 3 Scramble
Taking full advantage of another fine day of bright sunshine and calm conditions, Dreamland's lady members played a Monday morning scramble around the Par 3 Academy course. Thanks to the new initiative suggested by Gulnara Asedova and organisation from Elaine McFadden, six pairs enjoyed the fantastic facility that tests all short game skills. Only 4 shots divided the 6 teams but winning with an impressive score of 26 were Alison Grant and Sabine Siddiqi. Well done both!
In addition to the scramble the ladies also participated in a putting competition which resulted in a tense sudden death playoff between Burney Makey and Gulnara Asadova. Holding her nerve Burney slotted home the winning 3 foot putt to take top spot.
Thanks to all those who participated. We look forward to seeing you all back fine tuning your wedge play on the Par 3 course very soon.
