Remembering Pearl Harbor & Welcoming a New Sergeant
Thank you to the Central Committee of Organized War Veterans of Ossining for bringing us together at noon on December 7 in the annual remembrance of Pearl Harbor. Michael G. O'Connor led the program with a history of some of the events of that fateful day.

At last week's village board meeting we adopted the 2020 budget. For the fourth year in a row there will be a 0% tax rate increase. We opened the meeting by appointing James Kastanis to be Ossining's newest Police Sergeant. Congratulations Sergeant Kastinas. Thank you for your dedication to keeping our community safe. Appreciating Village Volunteers
Join us at the Ossining Library at 7:30pm on Wednesday for a special work session celebrating the volunteers appointed to serve on all our village boards, commissions, councils and committees. Local government works best when the voices of the community are active participants. In the case of some land use boards, this may mean understanding and implementing village code. Appointed volunteers also impact the life of the village with efforts like recommending initiatives for downtown beautification, connecting local artists, and educating tenants and landlords about new state rental regulations.

We will be appointing new volunteers to join many of these committees in the new year. Wednesday's program is an opportunity to say thank you to the dozens of folks who raise their hand and lend their time, passion and expertise to improve Ossining in a thoughtful and constructive way.

With Regards,
Victoria Gearity, Ossining Mayor
The Future of our Waterfront
Join us at the Ossining Library on Monday, December 16 for the final presentations from graduate students at Cornell's Climate-adaptive Design Studio. This semester Ossining was a case study for how a Hudson River community can design our waterfront to address the rising sea levels that will dramatically impact our coast.

The public program begins at 2pm and continues until 5pm. The presentations will be videotaped. I've met with students at two previous points in their proposal preparation. The face of our waterfront will be changing dramatically, and the future depicted in these proposals can be disconcerting. Understanding the reality of what's to come is only the first step in smart planning.
