PAUL SANNER
Dear God, thank you for today and every day.
Please help us to keep our hearts, minds and hands turned to your presence,
listening to your call and working for your Kingdom.
Scripture
Psalm 116

I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my supplications.
Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
     I suffered distress and anguish.
Then I called on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I pray, save my life!”

Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.
The LORD protects the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return, O my soul, to your rest, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears,
     my feet from stumbling.
I walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
I kept my faith, even when I said, “I am greatly afflicted”;
I said in my consternation, “Everyone is a liar.”

 What shall I return to the LORD for all his bounty to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,
 I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful ones.
O LORD, I am your servant; I am your servant, the child of your serving girl.
     You have loosed my bonds.
 I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice and call on the name of the LORD.
 I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people,
 in the courts of the house of the LORD, in your midst, O Jerusalem.
   Praise the LORD!
Reflection
In worship these days we are in a series called “The Path to Transformation.” The first general topic has been prayer -- this past Sunday, Jeremy offered this quote from Meister Eckhart “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough” and many other inspiring thoughts about prayer.

In that spirit, I offer this prayer:

Thank you God, for today and every day. Thank you for the world that you have given us to inhabit -- may we be good stewards of your creation, and see that what you have given us is shared fully among all of your people.

Thank you for our communities -- may we treat each other always with dignity and respect. Thank you for the people who walk with us in our lives -- family, friends, mentors Please help us to appreciate the love -- your love -- that is given to us through others, and help us to show your love as well.

Thank you for the expressions of our human condition -- for laughter and sadness; music and art; poetry and prose. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

With gratitude for the faith community that is PCW, here is the Chancel Choir recording of “Let All Things Now Living”, with the words, in case you want to sing along at home.

Peace be with you. Have a great day.

Words:
Let all things now living a song of Thanksgiving
To God our Creator triumphantly raise;
Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
By guiding us on to the end of our days.
God’s banners are o’er us; pure light goes before us,
A pillar of fire shining forth in the night:
Till shadows have vanished, all fearfulness banished,
As forward we travel from light into light.

By law God enforces, the stars in their courses,
The sun in its orbit obediently shine;
The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains,
The depths of the ocean proclaim God divine.
We too should be voicing our love and rejoicing;
With glad adoration, a song let us raise,
Till all things now living unite in Thanksgiving:
To God in the highest, hosanna and praise!
Closing Prayer
Thank you God, for everything. Amen.
