Water Resources featured at conference

A favorite adage is that "Whiskey Is for Drinking and Water Is for Fighting Over". Like all good adages, it transcends time because it's spiked with truth. And like most adages it's ... well ... a little more complicated than that.

Said Forum board member and retired hydrogeologist with Ecology, "At this year's conference we've lined up some exceptional water sessions. I'll be moderating a session on Washington's latest effort to balance out instream flows while providing new supplies for homes in rural Washington."

Bob Haynes, a Forum board member and retired engineer with IDWR, will moderate a session giving the current standing of water rights adjudication in northern Idaho and infrastructure development being put in place by the City of Spokane. "It's all how we go about meeting future growth," said Haynes.

And not to be outdone, water purveyors from the Idaho Washington Aquifer Collaborative (IWAC) are leading a session on their effort to develop efficient irrigation and landscape design standards. Said Tonilee Hanson who is coordinating the effort for IWAC, "We're working across borders to develop standards that support common sense conservation that's tailored to the specific needs of each jurisdiction."

Said Forum Executive Director Andy Dunau "There's plenty of water at other sessions as well. We're here to quench your thirst."
