This will be only a four-day school week due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 3. Classes will resume on schedule Tuesday morning.

We now enter the month of September coming off a great start to the school year across the board: academics, club activities, performing arts programs; and athletics. I would like to thank our LNMS families for their support during August. If you have yet to do so, kindly considering obtaining your 2018-2019 membership in our PTSA. They do so much for the school throughout the year at such a nominal fee and no volunteering is required of our members. Thank you - LNMS PTSA website.

If you are opening this issue over the busy Labor Day weekend, please drive safely and remember to buckle up.

In Knights Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Orange County voters approved the renewal of the one mill property tax for another four years Tuesday by 83%. This was the greatest success rate so far and these public funds will once again be gradually invested across many high quality programs that benefit our students. Thank you very much for supporting our students!

Knight Stormy Weather

Lightning 30/30 rule: If it takes less than 30 seconds to hear thunder after seeing the flash, lightning is near enough to pose a threat; after the storm ends, wait 30 minutes before resuming outdoor activities.

Make a plan with your child before stormy weather occurs during school dismissal.

Our plan is to have all bus riders report to the gym and car riders/bike riders/walkers report to the cafeteria during the delayed 30/30 dismissal.  Administrators  will be in contact with parents in the car loop, students in the gym/cafeteria and OCPS transportation. We are constantly monitoring weather radar during a storm to assist us in making  informed decisions that keep our students safe during school dismissal.

Check our Facebook page for dismissal information when you see foul weather in the area. Thank you.

Knight Music

Members of the beginning band with their parents were given an opportunity to try out instruments on display around our cafeteria. One of the most positive experiences you can offer your child is the chance to learn self-discipline at the highest level via participation in band. In addition, their cooperative talents, self expression, coordination, poise, sense of accomplishment, self confidence and creative mind will all be nurtured through their study of instrumental music.

Knight Teacher in the Spotlight!
Florida Council Social Studies Teacher of the Year Finalist

Congratulations Ms. Stephanie MacDougall on being named a finalist for the FCSS Teacher of the Year for Middle School. The Council salutes your inspiration and dedication to teaching the youth of Florida. The LNMS community also wishes you good luck at the awards banquet, October 20, 2018.

Knight Sports
LNMS soccer teams opened the season with victories over Innovation Middle.

Soccer season is underway and our soccer teams kicked off their season last week against Innovation Middle School with two big wins! Our defending division champions and county semi-final contestants did not disappoint and reminded everyone why it is great to be Knight.

The boys team won 4-0 and the girls team won 2-0. Eighth grader Asael Sterwart scored our first two goals, setting the momentum for our Knights early on. Seventh grader Harold Baerga had one assist. Valentina Mora and Isabella Bonilla each contributed a goal to the Lady Knights victory.

With the start of school, tryouts, practices and the uncooperative weather, the past few weeks have been intense for our players and coaches. We are extremely proud of the hard work that has been put into the season in such a short period of time and look forward to another great soccer season!
