Christie Takes Full Advantage Of Garmin App
While anglers have been utilizing services like Google Earth for quite some time to scout bodies of water, more companies are developing apps that make incorporating your map research into your electronics a simple task. Jason Christie takes full advantage of the Garmin ActiveCaptain app to assist him when he is doing research in preparation for an upcoming event. "Map study is something I've relied on for a long time to scout fishing locations. With the development of satellite imagery, it is so easy to find those places you can't see on a regular topography map, or get a better idea of how a body of water lays out at different water levels," says Christie. The Garmin ActiveCaptain app allows Christie to make, save and transfer routes and waypoints between the app and his Garmin chartplotter from his mobile device. "Being able to get on my tablet or phone and plot a track, or mark waypoints that I would like to take a closer look at and have them automatically transfer to my units is a huge time saver for me. The app also allows me to view and control your my chartplotter from my smartphone or tablet, which is also a cool feature." said Christie. The Garmin ActiveCaptain app is full of functional features and is available here.

9. Best for Last
PRESENTED BY: AFTCO
AFTCO continues as a leader in conservation in 2020 with their new Tournament Weigh In Bag. AFTCO is supplying dozens of tournament trails across the country with these premium weigh in bags to ensure that bass, crappie and walleye are all returned to lakes and rivers in the best possible condition. For years, tournament trails have relied on simple plastic bags for anglers to transport fish to the scales. Now thanks to the donation of these bags from AFTCO these same trails are able to provide their anglers with better equipment for the weigh in. AFTCO provides all these bags at no charge to tournament organizations to help them provide the best fish care possible. The bags were designed as a two-part system to make weighing the fish easy and are also available with an air bladder system that will provide oxygen into the water while the fish are in the bag. The first step in using the bags is to fill them with water. They hold more water than a normal bag allowing the fish to have more space than small plastic bags. The bag design also keeps a consistent shape allowing the fish more space at the bottom of the bag. Another nice feature of the bags is they are free standing, so you can set them on the ground and then fill with the pump out from your boat.
Next you place the mesh bag inside the outer white bag and then place the fish inside the mesh bag. Anglers can then transport the fish from their boat to the scales. Once at the scales the tournament director grabs the mesh bag and pulls it out of the outer white bag. With the fish inside the mesh bag they can easily be placed on the scales. This system minimizes the handling of the fish and also prevents them from being dumped into a tub or basket. While the fish are being weighed the white outer bag remains on the ground keeping the water in place and ready for the return of the fish. Once weighing is complete the fish can quickly be placed back in the white bag to be released or they can quickly be transferred to a release boat. As a final step to support healthy fisheries AFTCO also provides their Bass Bus release boat for dozens of events each year. The boat is provided free of charge for tournament organizations to make sure fish are held in optimum conditions with oxygen water and then spread out when released, rather than all being released in a small area at the ramp. If you are a tournament organization that is interested in receiving more information on the AFTCO Tournament Weigh In Bag please contact AFTCO here.
