Three first place teams for Midwest Regional Dairy Challenge 
RIVER FALLS, WIS., February 12-14, 2020-The 2020 Midwest Regional Dairy Challenge concluded February 14 in River Falls. The event proved to once again be a be a great success with 113 students from 18 schools, coaches and volunteers gathering on Wednesday February 12 in frigid River Falls, Wisconsin. NAIDC is an innovative event for students in dairy programs at North American post-secondary institutions. Its mission is to develop tomorrow's dairy leaders and enhance progress of the dairy industry, by providing education, communication and networking among students, producers, and agribusiness and university personnel. The 2020 national event will be March 28-30 in Green Bay, Wisconsin; details are at www.dairychallenge.org.
DFA, Dean reach $425m deal
Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) announced Feb. 17 that it has reached a $425 million agreement with Dean Foods for the farmer-owned cooperative to become the stalking horse bidder to acquire a substantial portion of Dean's assets and business.
House members continue to prod FDA on milk labeling 
Fifty-eight members of the House of Representatives wrote to Food & Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn urging the agency to quickly finish and act upon its examination of how to enforce regulations defining what may be labeled a dairy product.
Project to study how human behavior affects cattle well-being
Boehringer Ingelheim, together with global innovation consultancy Innovia Technology, announced Feb. 17 that it has initiated an innovative project with the aim of acquiring a deeper understanding of the human behaviors that affect cattle well-being.

Nominate your colleague today for the FASS-AFIA New Frontiers in Animal Nutrition Award! The deadline to nominate colleagues for the FASS-AFIA New Frontiers in Animal Nutrition Award is approaching. The award is designed to stimulate, acknowledge, and reward pioneering and innovative research relevant to the nutrition of animals that benefits humankind and the nutritional value of foods from animals. The award will be presented at the meeting of choice of the award winner (during the annual meeting of the American Dairy Science Association, American Society of Animal Science, or Poultry Science Association) in the summer of 2020.
Procedures: Nominations should be submitted on the  FASS Awards website.
Deadline: All nominations must be submitted on the website no later than April 1, 2020, 11:59 p.m. CDT.
Instructions: Guidelines for the FASS-AFIA New Frontiers in Animal Nutrition Award are posted  here. Nominators are encouraged to review the instructions carefully and to follow these guidelines strictly to avoid rejection of the nomination.
Eligibility:
  • Nominee must have made an outstanding and innovative contribution to nutrition research concerning animals that benefits humankind or the nutritional value of food from animals.
  • Nominee must have published results of original research.
  • Nominee must have been a member of ADSA, ASAS, or PSA for at least five consecutive years and currently be a member of such society and in good standing.
  • No individual shall receive the award more than once. Preferably, the award shall be presented to one individual but may be bestowed to coworkers if deemed advisable by the American Feed Industry Association award committee.
