The Rev. Jenny Gregg asks members of Grace to help secure a new homeless shelter in Pittsfield
Jenny currently holds outdoor services each Sunday, in a congregation called The Cathedral of the Beloved. This community gathers on the lawn of St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield for an ecumenical service at 2 p.m. and has a meal. Through this work she has become acquainted with the struggles of those living on the street or in insecure housing situations. Now, Jenny is requesting help to secure housing that has been developed by the First United Methodist Church.
She is inviting us to work with members of many congregations and members of First Methodist (FUMC) to make sure the homeless shelter at First Methodist on Fenn Street becomes a reality.
Jenny says,"As some of you already know, this work is already well underway and Downtown Pittsfield Inc. (DPI) and the downtown business owners are working to bring it to a halt. As one member said during the Development Review Board hearing last week (and I paraphrase), "it's not about wanting it in my backyard, I don't even want it in my front yard."

What are you grateful for?
In this time of fear and anxiety, it can be easy to miss the daily blessings that are right in front of us. Being grateful is not just for good times. Being grateful is even more important when fear sets a place at your table and heartbreak seems to be in your every breath. Because by being grateful we become aware of all the ways God is working in us. Being grateful is a part of our healing and our deliverance. Being grateful is where our best selves reside.
You are invited to take time each day to breathe and be aware of all the ways God is present with us. Write them down or simply include them in your daily prayers. A heart that turns toward being grateful comes to see the goodness and grace of God everywhere, even in a time of hardship.

Schedule of Upcoming Clergy
Continuing on Sunday, August 9, we welcome the Rev. Betsy Fisher who will lead Morning Prayer each Sunday in August with the exception of August 16. On that Sunday the Rev. Rich Simpson, Canon to the Ordinary, will be our guest preacher and in addition to leading worship will offer information about the search process.
The Rev. Libby Wade will serve as Interim Rector. She will begin on August 15 and her first Sunday will be September 6.
Libby's full message to Grace Church can be read by clicking here.
In her conclusion, she says:
"I am blessed to be following Janet, knowing how much she loves each of you and how much time and energy she has invested in growing and deepening Grace Church's ministry and fellowship. I've also gotten to know many of the outstanding lay leaders of Grace through deanery and diocesan activities. Now I look forward to working with the Rev. Jen Bloesch and all the staff, vestry, and congregation of Grace Church. Our God, who both cries and laughs with us, has gifted you in so many ways and now calls you into a challenging, yet hopeful future. Thank you for asking me to join you for this transition time. I pray for Grace Church each day and ask that you do the same for both myself and your retiring rector, as we take on our new roles."
WELCOME, LIBBY AND JIM

Tenth Sunday after Pentecost
Matthew 14:22-33
Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid."
Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

Grace Church shows up!
Dutch, Jainee and Ellis have come every week for the past few weeks to help out at the Garden. They even showed up on last Monday, the hottest day of the year so far! Dutch helped with pumpkins while Jainee and Ellis did a treasure hunt for big weeds around the farm.
Jen also had a friend who visited and helped out on that hot day.
What a blessing volunteers are! The morale was high that day with all the help.
The internship is still in full swing!
Here is Timmy planting some pumpkin sprouts.
And Halle washing lettuce. She enjoyed having some shade cover for another hot day on Tuesday. Eventually the whole team helped her out, and we harvested 162 heads of lettuce!
Meanwhile, our season is changing. As we harvest the last of our lettuce, the beds are freed up for other plants. Here you can see we seeded three small beds of carrots.

In response, the Tuesday Bible Study Group decided to send these young fellows each a copy of
Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, a remix of the National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi, written for ages 12 and up. It takes you on a race journey from then to now, shows you why we feel how we feel, and why the poison of racism lingers. It also proves that while racist ideas have always been easy to fabricate and distribute, they can also be discredited.
