Greetings from Council Member Mike Knox
At Large Council Member Pos 1
As the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey has come and gone, many are wondering how far we have come in our recovery and how far we have to go. Passing the 2.5 billion dollar Harris County Bonds was a step in the right direction. The county and the city are likely to collaborate very closely with one another on projects that benefit all the residents of Houston and Harris County.  While we would all like to fully recover from Hurricane Harvey in one year's time, realistically that's not likely to be the case. In fact, it will more likely be a decade or more before we fully recover from this hurricane. The City of Houston is still waiting to receive funds from the federal government that will help home owners restore or rebuild their homes. The federal money will not arrive until the end of the year. Meanwhile, the city is working as fast as we can and are focused on infrastructure projects designed to mitigate flooding. For additional information about recovery efforts, please visit the following links.

  COMING UP THIS FALL!

In the upcoming November 6 election, Houston voters will cast ballots on two local issues: Rebuild Houston (Prop A) and Firefighter Pay Parity (Prop B).
Both items will significantly impact the Houston city budget. I strongly urge voters to educate themselves on both topics.
LOOKING AHEAD!
Hope you're making plans to attend National Night Out October 2. Send us an invite if you would like me and my staff to swing by your location.  atlarge1@houstontx.gov

AUGUST FLEW BY!
Today I joined the Mayor, fellow Council Members, Department Heads and municipal workers in the Legacy Room at City Hall for a moment of silence for lives shattered by Hurricane Harvey. We lifted in prayer the families of H.P.D. Officer Steve Perez and Public Works employee Joseph Dowell who lost their lives trying to save others. We thanked our many city employees who lost everything yet remained at their posts to help others.
It was a sea of orange and white as August 28 was declared Post Oak Little League Team Day. Whether they won the
World Series or not, they are all winners in our eyes. Thanks for representing Houston so well in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Congratulations!
