"South Bay Junior Academy" will become
"South Bay Christian School" this spring
When SBJA opened its doors in 1964 it offered classes through Gr. 10. Traditionally a "junior academy" in the Seventh-day Adventist education system indicates an elementary school (Gr. K-8) that offers the first two years of high school (Gr. 9-10). Grades 9-10 at SBJA were discontinued about six years ago, but the name remained the same, so last fall we had a contest to re-name the school. Out of about 20 suggestions, "South Bay Christian School" won. At an SBJA Constituency Meeting in October, the new name was voted in, so now we're making the change leading up to the 2020-2021 school year. We're working on a new logo which we'll introduce soon.
Adventures in Art is a gift to our students
A big thank you to our parent volunteers who faithfully go to the A-in-A classes from the City of Torrance, and then bring back the technique to share with our eager students. I hope all parents are making a practice of framing these "works of art!"
Rule #18
Eat when you're hungry,
not when you're bored.
For many of us, eating has surprisingly little to do with hunger. We eat out of boredom, for entertainment, to comfort or reward ourselves. Try to be aware of why you're eating, and ask yourself if you're really hungry before you eat and then again along the way. (One old wives' test: If you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, then you're not hungry.)
Kindergarten parents are lining up
We have a lovely group of young parents whose children are ready for kindergarten! Many attended the Kindergarten Parent Information Night last week to learn about SBJA's program. If you or someone you know has a child this age, let them know that Kindergarten Readiness Assessments are being scheduled now in the school office (310-370-6215).
