Do you seek a life centered on Jesus? 
Join a St. Peter's Small Group and grow in the loving, liberating, life-giving way of Jesus  - a way that has the power to change your life, our church, and the world!  Small Groups typically meet twice a month in a home, include a meal, a time of fellowship, and follow an outline of discussion around a topic or book. This year we will be talking about The Jesus Movement: Walking the Way of Love: Practices for a Jesus-centered life from The Episcopal Church Center.

Journey weekend is scheduled for Friday, November 2 ^nd through Sunday, November 4 ^th at Camp Mitchell. It is open to all from any denomination, and non-Episcopalians. The weekend is a retreat designed to enliven the faith of interested Christians so they may begin to discover Jesus' will for their lives, then return home and work to strengthen and bless their local church and communities in light of the Kingdom of God.
The cost for the weekend is $150.00. There are partial scholarships available. Please contact Nancy Thompson at 428-2236 or email [email protected] for more information. Brochures and applications are in the lobby.

There are still several open dates for altar flowers in Sept., Oct., and Nov.
The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board by the restrooms. You may also call the church office to sign up. A member of the Altar Guild will contact you regarding the size of arrangement you would like to purchase. Also, please keep in mind, that it is customary to leave the arrangement at the church so that they flowers can be given to shut-ins and those that are ill.

Pantry Musings

There are anti-immigrant stories, Ezra and Nehemiah, and laws in the Bible, but there are stories that accept immigrants, too. The Book of Ruth is a beautiful story of a Moabite, Ruth, a particularly contentious group for the Israelites as they are reputed to be the heirs of Lot and band from the Lord's assembly. [Deut. 23.3] Ruth, the Moabite, is widowed by her husband an Israelite with no one to care for her. Her mother-in-law, Naomi, is also left with no one to support her. Ruth promises Naomi that she will go with her and help her wherever she goes. Naomi, an Israelite, decides to return to Israel where some of the laws will allow her to glean the harvest and help her survive. She tells Ruth what her plans are and releases Ruth from her promise. Ruth insists on keeping her promise. When they arrive in Israel the two women become involved in settling in, including getting to know Boaz. In these efforts, Boaz gains an appreciation of the two women. He observes that Ruth is a diligent worker, that she is protecting Naomi, and that she is familiar with the ways of his country. Before long, he decides to take both women in as a part of his household. Boaz gives the Moabite woman protection under the laws and customs of his society. When I think of all the people who live in this country or are recent immigrants, many of whom have fled their homes because living conditions were so bad, so dangerous that they needed a place that was safe to raise their children, to live, and to work, I think about this story. Some of these immigrants have children who have known no other home, language, customs and now as adults have no path to citizenship and are regarded as illegal residents of the only home they have ever known. I think of all the undocumented persons who are blamed for criminal behavior solely because of their skin color or language. I think about hateful treatment of people target based on their language, skin color, hair color and texture, and their customs. I think about my childhood in a small town on the border of Mexico and Arizona not knowing the difference in our cultures or the rationing of the Second World War because goods and food were available just a couple of blocks away. A wall would violate our culture interfering with many of the rich learning experiences of children living in the area as well as the economies of both nations.
