Moving Forward with SEL Competencies, Title IV Part A Application Available, DOJ Grants, School Mental Health Budget Proposal,  and our Training Calendar
August 2018 Updates
This month's newsletter is also available: www.wishschools.org/resources/newsletters.cfm
Welcome Back!

I am grateful for all you do to make schools safe and healthy. Some new resources are available to help you increase your emotional resilience.  DPI and Rogers InHealth have developed a Compassion Resilience Toolkit that can be used at staff meetings to discuss how we can build resiliency in ourselves as well as those we work with.  It is free, but you will need to create a log-in to access the 12 topic areas.  Elena Aguilar's new book Onward: Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Educators is also another way to start focusing on how to build resilience and avoid burnout.  Be well, Tracy Herlitzke, WISH Center Director
What's next with Wisconsin SEL Competencies?

In case you missed it, the DPI released Wisconsin SEL Competencies in May 2018. This guide is designed to provide educators and out-of-school-time youth service professionals with the essentials for implementing a comprehensive approach to SEL. Find the Social and Emotional Learning Competencies here . SEL alignment tools are available on the DPI's website.

The WISH Center in partnership with the DPI are hosting training in each CESA to advance and integrate the Wisconsin SEL competencies during 2018-2019. Link to the Moving Forward with Social Emotional Learning flyer and registration.

Trauma Sensitive Schools Awareness Training Available
DPI has collaborated with SaintA; Trauma Sensitive Education, LLC; the Wisconsin Safe and Healthy Schools Center; the 12 CESAs; and the Wisconsin Coalition of Religious and Independent Schools to develop a 3-hour Trauma Sensitive Schools Awareness Training.
This training will support schools in beginning the transformative journey towards becoming a Trauma Sensitive School. Covered topics include Adverse Childhood Experiences, the universal approach to Trauma Sensitive Schools, and the importance of staff wellness. Participants will end the training with ideas of how to further the journey. This training will satisfy the 3-hour ACE/TSS training requirement as outlined in the Department of Justice's School Safety Grant.
