A little help goes a long way...
Our Wednesday dinners are one of our best ministries. If you haven't tried coming....you really should. It takes a lot of effort to prepare and clean up a meal for over 100 people each week. We are blessed to have Kelly Poff as our cook, but we depend on lots of volunteers as well to make it happen. The more help we have, the easier it goes. So we need your help.
There are a number of ways to indicate your willingness to help.:
We will pass a clipboard on Sunday morning OR it will be available after worship at the information center OR you can use the
online sign-up

Parking Lot Repairs Underway
On Thursday work began on parking lot repairs. Some sections were replaced and the whole north lot will be sealed as soon as the weather cooperates. Once it is all sealed, the stripes will be added.
Unfortunately the east parking lot (outside the felllowship hall) had deteriorated to the point where it was not repairable so it will be left as is and eventually need to be replaced.
|
Share your bounty
Its that time of year, when some of our gardens are overflowing. If you have produce to spare bring it worship with you on Sunday and we can find a good home for it.
Also, check out the (New) COMMUNITY LIFE bulletin board down the hall...where you can share give-aways (like unused Ptacek's gas coupons) or post a notice for something you need or something you want to share.

WELCOME TO JOY!
Our Information Center is now open and staffed by a member of Joy, Hope Olson! We are looking for others to volunteer to take a shift for this informative position. If you are interested in helping, you should have a good working knowledge about Joy, be friendly and like to smile, and hand out loaves of bread to Joy's visitors. You would also be invited to Joy's weekly staff meetings on Tuesday, at 1pm so you are up to date on the events in the coming week. Please contact the Office, Pastor Steve or Renee Braun if interested.

FEEL GOOD KITS - Community Partner Project
This mission project is an opportunity for Joy Lutheran Church to partner with the schools in Prescott to provide basic hygiene kits to youth in our community. A similar project is being done at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Roberts, WI. Joy members will make the kits, and school Counselors will identify and distribute them to students in need. Students will keep the kits at school so they have access to them each morning. Kits are filled with basic hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush/comb, etc) including a card with Blessings from Joy Lutheran Church. Items can be replenished as needed. Counselors from all four Prescott schools have suggested a total of 32 kits for the year.
Thirty two zip loc bags identified by girl/boy and grade levels are available in the narthex with specific instructions inside.
Please consider choosing a bag, filling it, and returning it to Joy so we can distribute them to our schools. If you have any questions, please contact Hope Olson.
Thank you for your support of this project!!

Joy Women's 2018-19 Directory Now Available
The new JWELCA Directory is now available for all the women in the church. The Directory lists the JWELCA Steering Committee, the Activities and Events of JWELCA, Bible study information. JWELCA Committees and Ministries, and much information about the Women of the ELCA. Especially important to note is the 2018-19 Calendar which lists, on pp. 7-8, all the planned JWELCA activities for the upcoming year. This year women are asked to pick up their Directory at the church Welcome Center. Please take the Directory that has your name on it. All the Directories are in boxes in alphabetical order by last name. Taking your Directory will help us save on mailing costs. They will be available on Sundays, September 2, 9, and 16.

All Women are Invited to the New Year of Bible Studies
The Women of Joy are invited to attend the monthly Women's Bible Study on the second Tuesday of every month, September through May, at 1:30 P.M. in the church Fireside Room.
This fall the Bible studies are on the topic of "Repentance." Repentance is one of the most powerful acts of a person or a church, making possible not only forgiveness but also reconciliation. This three-part Bible study by Meghan Johnston Aelabouni will explore how we as Lutheran Christians understand the role of repentance in our faith, especially as we understand God's grace to be unearned and freely given. Ordained in 2007, Rev. Aelabouni has served congregations in Illinois and Colorado and currently is a full time Ph.D. student and mom to three.
The September session is entitled "Time after Time: Turning to God"
The Bible verse is "Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding with steadfast love."
With these words, the prophet Joel reminds us that repentance is nothing to be afraid of-for when we turn to God, we find grace.
Join us as we discuss what it means to (re)turn to God with all our hearts, and how do we do it?
The September session will be led by Marcia Lindseth. See you on Tuesday, September 11, at 1:30 P.M. All are welcome!

Women Invited to Attend 1st Annual
Synodical Women's Organizations Day of Enrichment

This will be a morning of inspiration and fellowship with a focus on our commitment to grow in faith, to become engaged in our ministries, and to educate ourselves in cultural differences. Lunch will be served. Any woman who would like to attend this event should contact Marcia Lindseth (715-262-3498) in order to register and carpool to Osseo. Design for Butterfly Memorial Garden at Joy
In conversation with two of our families that have lost daughters in recent years (Ellery Ennenga and Ava Christianson), we have come up with at design for a butterfly memorial garden. This would be part of an overall plan to better utilize our outdoor space for ministry. A butterfly garden was chosen because both girls and their families developed a special affinity with butterflies in the grieving process. So the garden space would be designed with flowers specifically chosen as good pollinators and butterfly habitat.
The first phase would be to put in the sidewalk that creates the perimeter for the garden and get some trees planted to start creating some shade. A second phase would be to create an outdoor worship area. If there is interest, there would be possibility of adding a columbarium (place to inter cremains). Down the road we would also like to see ways to integrate access, playground, shelter, trails, community garden space down the hill on the land that we steward.
There are two things we are looking for now:
One is your
input. We are still relatively early in the design stage. We have the basic concept but are still working out the details and value your insights.
The other is
funding for the project. It would be great if we could get the first phase started this fall so we would be ready for a spring planting. We will be creating a designated fund where you can make gifts in honor or memory of loved ones.
There are flags on the lawn indicating where the garden would be to help you visualize the project. Your comments and questions are important to us. Please share your thoughts.

Thank You to Joy from Heart for Luther Park Event!
We had another successful year, fundraising approximately $35,000.00 give or take as some #'s aren't quite in yet. (last year was a record year of $36k) It was a beautiful day for our event. We had about 20 less quilts but 20 or more silent auction items donated then last year with a wide variety. The food was delicious... the VFW sure knows how to grill chicken! Pie and ice cream were a hit and we ended up going through 17 cases of water! We can't say "Thank you" enough to our generous donors. So many beautiful quilts and wonderful baskets donated... to such a great cause.
This being my first year at Heart for Luther Park, I am in Awe of the amazing people and businesses that support our outdoor ministry. So many people give of their time and talents to make this event a success. Many blessings to you all!
