Message from the Executive Director

As I sit down to write this article, there is a damp chill in the air. It feels like fall already, but it isn’t even September yet. While I long for those warm summer days to return, we are already preparing for fall here at the Chamber.

I have a few Chamber meetings and events to remind you about as you begin to fill your fall calendar. Our Business Advocacy Committee meetings will resume once again. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 12:00pm in the Chamber of Commerce Board Room. All members are welcome to join us for discussions about issues impacting the business community. Tradeshow Committee meetings will also resume in September. They are the first Thursday of the month also at 12:00pm in the Chamber Board Room. We have some exciting changes planned for the 2019 Spring Expo and if you would like to be involved in the planning of this event through our committee, please let Marley know.

Our Lunch N’ Learn sessions will continue throughout the fall. On September 20 from 11:30am-1:00pm at the Canalta Cretaceous Conference Centre, we will have a presentation on cannabis in the workplace, so employers can be informed about cannabis legalization once it comes into effect on October 17. Our October 16 Lunch N’ Learn .... read more

Mental Health At Work Makes Good Business Sense
~Canadian Chamber of Commerce~

With more than 500,000 Canadians missing work each week due to a mental health problem or illness, and costing the economy more than $51 billion per year, no workplace is immune from these risks, and we cannot afford to limit our definition of occupational health and safety to only the physical.

Business plays a key role in fostering a positive work environment that emphasizes the importance of work-life balance.
