On November 3, park closing times change to :
6 pm @ Harris Lake County Park
5:30 pm at the New Hill parking area on the ATT 

On November 11, park closing times change to:
5:30 pm @ Harris Lake County Park
5 pm at the New Hill parking area on the ATT 

All park users should be off the trails/course 15 minutes before park closing time.
Restrooms at all parks lock 15 minutes before park closing.

10-Miler Race  on the ATT

This Saturday, 
October 26, 2019
 
There will be over 600 runners on the ATT during the hours of  9 am-1 pm Race is based out of the White Oak Church Parking Lot. Please plan to avoid this high-traffic area on this date.


Harris Lake County Park will participate in a  food drive  to 
benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.  We are excited to partner with  this organization to make sure #NoOneGoesHungry. 
On your  next visit to the park, drop off  a donation at our park office.

Kids Discover Nature : A Snails Spell at HLCP
Monday, November 9; 11- noon
Free for ages 1-6 with an adult  
As we explore the way of the Snail through Joanne Ryder's book, A Snail's Spell, we learn how special these little creatures are. There will be live snails and slugs to touch and observe and you create your own snail to explore the outdoors with you.
Meet at the Cypress Shelter

Saturday, November 9;  11- noon
Free for all ages 
Uncover the important role earthworms play in our environment and take a peek into the park's vermicompost bins to see our worms at work!  Learn about the different types of composting we have at Harris Lake County Park in addition to our worms.

Geocaching 101 at the American Tobacco Trail

Sunday, Nov. 10; 1:30-3 pm
Free for ages 6 and up
Geocaching is a treasure hunt where participants use GPS coordinates to track down hidden "caches." We will learn how to use traditional GPS units and the Geocaching App (by Groundspeak) and then find real geocaches hidden along the trail.

Fall Wagon Rides  at HLCP
Saturday, November 16
Two times offered: 12:30 - 1:30 pm OR 2 - 3 pm 
Free for all ages 
Join us for a relaxing afternoon wagon ride along the back roads of the park. We'll enjoy the autumn air, observe nature and learn a bit of history of the land before it became a park along the way.

Super Scavengers on the ATT
Sunday, November 17;  2-3 pm
Free for all ages
Beavers are such busy creatures and have many unique features 
that allow them to survive in their aquatic world. Learn about their 
special adaptations through our "Build a Beaver" program then hike 
to the Beaver Creek bridge to look for evidence of these industrious 
and amazing mammals.

Citizen Science  at HLCP 
 
Thursday, November 21;  1:30 - 3:30 pm   
Free for ages 10 and up   
Help us manage our habitat boxes. We need to clean them and prepare them for winter.  Meet at the Cypress Shelter

Thanks to  all the visitors that braved the rain to join us on October 13 for our 
16th annual Haunting at Harris
The rain did not keep us from having fun. We ran all 10 wagon rides with all but one full! Kids enjoyed the obstacle course and the pumpkin pass games. A great time was had by all!
