Dear Sullivan Families,
It has been a wonderful start to the 2018-19 school year! Welcome back to our returning Sullivan families, and a warm welcome to our new families. I have enjoyed meeting your children this week, and I am looking forward to meeting parents next week at
Parent Night on August 29th!
This week I was able to get into almost every classroom to read aloud to the children and to start building a personal connection. We read the book
One
by Kathryn Otoshi and talked about building a positive school community and making others feel like they count. As much as I enjoyed the read aloud and discussion, I must say that the question and answer sessions with the kids were the highlight of the week. They surprised me by asking some pretty interesting and thought provoking questions, in addition to the usual questions about my favorites. I look forward to visiting the rest of the classrooms on Monday!
Our staff worked hard during the weeks leading up to this one to ensure our buildings and classrooms were ready for our students. A special thank you to Mr. Blanco and Mr. Hitzeman, out custodians, for making our building look WONDERFUL! I also want to recognize our office staff, Mrs. Caffero and Mrs. Zawacki, for working so hard to make the start of the year as smooth as possible. Finally, thank you to our teaching staff for making the classrooms warm and welcoming for our students.
We have made some exciting changes at Sullivan for this school year! Staff members were hard at work over the summer participating in professional development, working with colleagues on summer curriculum projects, and further developing our PBIS system. This is going to be a positive and productive year! I can't wait to share more about our school next week at Parent Night. Have a wonderful weekend!
