ABC Chesapeake Shores Chapter, Excellence in Construction Award: WMATA Andrews Federal Center Bus Garage. The bus garage is our largest industrial Design-Build project to date.
Whiting-Turner Contracting Company nominated S&D's skilled tradesmen for their visual and technical HVAC and plumbing excellence on the 120 year-old,
George Washington University Corcoran School of Art and Design Historic Renovation. The WBC Craftsmanship Award recognized the adversity the men faced on the project, which included cutting stone and masonry wall up to 4 ft. thick and spending most of their time working in extremely congested spaces.
Our People Drive Innovation
A new application of an old tool improves quality control.
Using this tool, we can get up to 400 sleeves and embeds set in a single day! That tool is the Robotic Total Station, manufactured by Sokkia. Ten years ago we adopted the tool to help overcome challenges with aggressive schedules; improve our layout accuracy; and to take advantage of utilizing embeds to eliminate drilling and setting drop-in anchors for hanging pipe.
Most recently we used the tool to provide an additional level of quality control for our underground piping system; proving that innovation doesn't have to rely on a new tool or software system. It can be a new application of an old tool.
S&D partnered with Nourish Nowfor their #endhunger initiative throughout Montgomery County. The team assisted with the food recovery process; gleaning through mountains of produce and packaging meals for distribution.
Alongside Clark Construction Group, S&D worked together to lend a hand at Special Love's Camp Fantasticfor children ages 7-17 who are battling cancer. We helped repair broken toilets, faucets, showers, fountain leaks, pipe flush valves, and toilet tanks.
Worksource MontgomeryWe welcomed a rising senior from Richard Montgomery High School to intern for 3 weeks through the Worksource Montgomery Program. She worked with 3 different departments and was exposed to many career opportunities in construction.
We celebrated 20 years of Latino youth reaching their highest potential with Identity, working to increase social integration, conflict resolution skills, job readiness, and academic/vocational outlook.
