What is a...
SELF-INSURED GROUP HEALTH PLAN?
Answer - A self-insured group health plan (or a 'self-funded' plan as it is also called) is one in which the employer assumes the financial risk for providing health care benefits to its employees. In practical terms, self-insured employers pay for each out of pocket claim as they are incurred instead of paying a fixed premium to an insurance carrier, which is known as a fully-insured plan. Typically, a self-insured employer will set up a special trust fund to earmark money (corporate and employee contributions) to pay incurred claims.
...and what about deductibles?
District Medical Plan - the plan year, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum starts over October 1 and continues to September 30, 2020.

Dental and vision - while open enrollment elections for dental and vision are effective as of October 1, the plan year is a calendar year. Your dental deductible will start over January 1. If you changed from the Base Dental to the Buy-up Dental plan, you have up to $1,500 in benefits beginning October 1 that are payable by MetLife through December 31, minus any amount paid by MetLife from January 1 - September 30. Frequency limitations still apply.
Verify your deductions!
Don't forget to verify your insurance premium deductions that they are correct! October insurance premiums are deducted from your September check.
Flex and HSA employee contributions begin in October.

Wellness Tip
Happy Fall Y'all!
1) Start taking a Vitamin D supplement. We get most of our Vitamin D from the sun, so our intake decreases when the weather is colder since we spend most of our time inside during the fall/winter seasons. If you find you are not getting outside much, a Vitamin D supplement can boost your mood and immune system!
2) Take some time to yourself. Autumn and winter are the Earth’s way of telling us to slow down.
3) Get your flu shot and yearly check-up. Self explanatory! No one likes sniffling and aching and sneezing and coughing getting in the way of life. Yuck.
4) Moisturize your skin. Harsh temperatures can make your skin dry. Also, you still should be wearing sunscreen.
5) Buy in-season food. Beets, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, kale, pumpkin, broths, roasted squash, roots and sautéed dark leafy greens are all great choices. I don't think pumpkin spice lattes count. But you do you!
