"Respect is an ambiguous term."

After reading the article published by PBIS Apps, "Respect: Find Out What It Means to Me ... Actually Ask Your Students," I was left pondering several thoughts ...

  • Do we have a shared understanding of respect and what that really means for school environment?
  • Students recognize that they will be "respectful, responsible, and safe" at school ... but how does that really look?
  • Are we REALLY on the same page with all students?

Think of varying social settings you are in -- does the social story change depending upon the company you are in?

I would venture to guess the answer is yes, AND, it's the same for our students. The article provides guidance and instruction in reference to culturally responsive practices, PBIS implementation, and how existing practices may be excluding students. As we examine and move towards achieving equity within our schools, we challenge you to review this article and invite you to share your thoughts on how you might engage your staff to participate in an activity such as the one in the article.

Google Student Worksheets for the High School Skills for Health and Life curriculum and MMH Middle School modules have been completed and are available currently. Student Worksheets for grades 5 and 6 from the MMH Elementary Curriculum are being developed. MMH trained teachers in these grades may sign up anytime to receive access to the Google Student Worksheets.

Promoting STEM through Literature
Use literature to get your students excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) by actively involving them in the design thinking process. Each of the titles below shares a story where something was built or invented by designing, planning, gathering materials, and creating. In addition to strengthening literacy skills, your students will develop inquiry and problem-solving skills. They will also see that with perseverance, anyone can be innovative and invent new things!
