Interested in Volunteering?

The non-profit, Project Kids Eat,  which we donated to during our potluck will be in need of additional items.   We will give items for hygiene use, socks and underwear during Spring Break, Summer Vacation and the Winter break in December and Janurary.  We will coordinate with our membership a drop off point and take the items to the organization during those periods.

If you know of an organization in need of volunteers please share it with the group.  One aspect of TTN is giving back to the community.

We Made the News

TTN was featured in Gracie Bonds Staples column in the Atlanta Journal Constitution on Thursday, August 9th digital (online) version and in the  August 11th print edition.  We attracted a lot of coverage and many inquiries.  Many women in the Atlanta area are our peers and we are so happy to make the connection.

Here is the link to the column if you did not see it:

New Members Meeting - August 27th

We had a wine and cheese new members meeting in the building of Leona Young.  It was certainly a wonderful night as we got to know our newest members and they had a chance to understand TTN a little better.  We look forward to many wonderful shared experiences and opportunities to gain more knowledge as we navigate through this stage in our lives.

We continue to have some great Special Interest Groups (SIGs) activities as part of the Atlanta TTN experience.  If you are interested in a SIG, please let us know so you can be added to the SIGs distribution list to get communications on upcoming meetings.  It's so exciting to see all this new activity with Atlanta TTN.  Share with a friend and let them experience the power of TTN!

Mah Jongg SIG

The month of August was a good game month.  The group met and played at various members homes .  It is always good to get together, play as many games as possible and enjoy lunch.  The group decided to have Mah Jongg Mondays, playing 3 to 4 times a month.

The dates in September  are,
the 10th, 17th, 24th

Why play Mah Jongg?
Mahjong is Good Exercise for Your Brain

"It is said that mah jongg is a great game for keeping the mind sharp. It is highly recommended among the elderly as a means of keeping their brains in good health.  A game of mah jongg is an excellent mental workout. It is about as intensive a brain trainer as they come. It is not surprising to read that  mah jongg has been found to preserve function and delay decline in elderly individuals with dementia, even in those with significant cognitive impairment . If it is good for preventing age-related decline, then it should be good for younger people as well."

We play for social interaction but it is also a good way to exercise the brain.  You know as we get older it is important to keep those brain cells active.

Contact Elaine for locations.

We welcome new and seasoned players!

If you are interested in learning, we can teach you.   If interested in participating or have questions, please contact Elaine Cloward at [email protected], 770-883-3161.  We have lots of fun in this group.  Please remember to RSVP!

Peer Group Updates

The intention of these groups is for women to share and learn from each other.  While the groups are meant to create a supportive environment, be aware that any member of TTN can go to any Peer Group meeting or all Peer Group meetings with the exception of Cobb and ITP I.  We have them set up by location to make it easier for you to attend one closer to your home.  Contact the person listed under each group and let them know you will attend.
ITP (Inside The P erimeter) Peer Group I

The next meeting will be on Monday,  September 17, 2018 , 11:00 AM at the home of Gail Glover.  Contact Rhoda if you need the address.  For this meeting the Mah Jongg group will stay and begin play at Gail's house after the Peer Group meeting.  If you did not attend the Peer Group, plan to attend at 12:15 for the game.   Future meetings will consist of members previously attending.  Any questions on the ITP group please reach out to Rhoda Margolis at [email protected]

ITP (Inside The Perimeter) Peer Group II

Because of our new membership and many of them living in the Atlanta (closer to downtown) area we realized another Peer Group is needed.  This group will consist of members who are new to TTN and live closer to Atlanta, and DeKalb County.
Laura Greenberg will coordinate this group.  The first kick-off meeting will be Wednesday, October 3rd, 6:00 PM.  Please contact her at [email protected], let her know if you can attend and get the address of the location.

Cobb Peer Group

This Peer Group is closed, meaning the members attending will be the only ones to attend future meetings.  This group meets once a quarter.

Reach out to Judy Golden at [email protected] with any questions.

Perimeter Peer Group

Dorothy Carrillo is actively getting items in order to begin this Peer Group.  It is open to those in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area and new members in the area.   We are excited that this new group will meet on Wednesday,  September 5th at 7:00 PM at the home of Dorothy Carrillo.
Questions?  Dorothy can be reached at  [email protected] .

New Gwinnett Peer Group

Due to our growing membership north of Atlanta, a new peer group is being formed for the Gwinnett area (eg. TTN - Staying Active III
Tennis can be a great workout and lots of fun. Playing tennis has many health benefits including:

increasing aerobic capacities, lowering resting heart rate and blood pressure, improving metabolic function, increasing bone density, lowering body fat, improving muscle tone, strength and flexibility, increasing reaction times

Better Health Channel - website

We will feature a TTN member in the upcoming issues who are fighting the good aging fight.

Peggy Bartolotta
I've been playing on and off about 10 years. Since moving to Atlanta 5 years ago, I play on several teams in my league and now average playing 2-3 times/week between matches and clinic.

I prefer singles matches for the exercise, but mostly play doubles due to the team structure and have a wonderful partner who makes me a better player!

Aside from the endorphin release from playing, tennis increases core strength, circulation, lung capacity, energy, even brain power when you have to strategize and concentrate on ball placement. It's also a great way to socialize in a relaxed environment.
