Principal's Notes
Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back to school! It was wonderful to see all our returning students and welcome all our new friends to Saint Michael School for the 2018-19 school year! You may have noticed that your favorite weekly newsletter is arriving on Monday instead of Tuesday. This is not in error; This year the St. Michael's Minutes will be emailed every Monday to better give information on the upcoming weekly schedule.

Below are some quick notes for the upcoming week:
  • Tuesday, 8/28, 7:00 PM: 1st - 3rd Back to School Night in the All Purpose Room
  • Wednesday, 8/29, 7:00 PM: 4th - 8th Back to School Night in the Cafeteria
  • Friday, 8/31: 11:30 Dismissal (AfterCare is open)
  • Monday, 9/3: No School, Labor Day
  • Tuesday, 9/4: BeforeCare Opens (6:45 AM)

Parents can begin dropping off students at 7:15 AM this week out front of the Senior Building (Door #1). BeforeCare registration forms are being sent home today, and beginning next week parents are able to drop off as early as 6:45 AM for BeforeCare.

During afternoon dismissal, cars will not be allowed to enter the parking lot while students are outside the building during first pickup. The parking lot will open 20 minutes prior to the end of the day (usually 2:50, today 11:10) and most likely will be closed off between 3:08-3:15. We will have a staff member in the rear of the parking lot, and once students have begun dismissal, all late cars will have to wait until second pick-up. This is for student safety. Also, please remember there is no parking in the Church Parking Lot during dismissal. This once again is a safety concern. If you have any question please call the front office.

I look forward to seeing everyone and sharing some of the exciting new initiatives and other updates to our school at Back to School Night over the next few nights. They will begin with a brief presentation, followed by time in the classrooms. A schedule for the 4th - 8th grade night will be sent home on Wednesday.

Please be sure to return all forms that came home today or will be coming home this week. The lunch schedule will be sent home today, and hot lunch begins on September 10th. Please be sure to send your child(ren) in with lunches as there is no Hot Lunch option.

Our Middle School Students will now have Physical Education class twice a week. They will have this class on Tuesday and Thursday, and therefore should wear their PE uniforms to school every Tuesday and Thursday (we will notify parents and students if there is a change).

God bless,

Daniel Cinalli
Principal
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is coming to St. Michael! GOTR is a physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 6-8th grade. The program teaches life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment, while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Starting the week of September 24th, the team will meet every Monday and Wednesday from 3:15-5pm. The program culminates in a celebratory 5k at the end of the season on the weekend of December 1st and 2nd! The standard program fee is $175 and includes 20 lessons/practices, a t-shirt, water bottle, entry into the 5k, a 5k medal, and more. Financial assistance is available for anyone who needs it, with the lowest program registration cost being $22 for the season. Registration continues until September 19th for all 6th-8th Grade girls! Register at  www.gotrnova.org .
Mrs. Covington teachers her new students in KA about the rules and procedures in her classroom.
Mr. Miller, our new Honor's Math teacher, introduces the Prayer of St. Francis to his 7th Grade Honor's Math class. The prayer will be said at the start of every class.
Ms. Cortright watches as students go to their lockers between classes. Even on the first day of school, our middle school students rotated between all classes to meet their teachers and get used to the new schedule.
Students play a teacher introduction game with Ms. Bastidas in 4th grade. Ms. Bastidas let students guess true/false questions about her to learn more about their teacher.
