AUGUST NEWSLETTER
2018

It's back to school time and School Based Health Centers (SBHCs) are there to help students' needs -- providing school entry physicals and sports physicals, dental cleanings, a mental health check-in, asthma visit, or nutritional counseling -- right there in school!   During the summer, CASBHC has been busy preparing for Fall activities and providing resources to help SBHCs provide the very best care. We've scheduled two Fall trainings - Current Trends in Street Drugs and Prescription Medications on October 19th in Norwich, and Coping With An Active Shooter Situation in the School Setting on November 30th at the Capitol in Hartford.  You can read more details about the trainings below.

With the start of school, CASBHC is releasing the first-ever  Guide to Connecticut School Based Dental Services, a manual that will help schools, communities, and organizations design and operate a school based dental program. You can learn more about the manual here.

Read the results of the statewide SBHC Student Satisfaction Survey for the 2016-2017 school year.  98% of students rated SBHC services as Excellent or Good!

We have so many resources to start the school year right!  From the national SBHC data portal to Hallways to Health to dental programs, CASBHC is your hub for school based health resources!

Finally, become a member of CASBHC to receive the benefits of membership -- including discounted fees for training events like the annual conference and the trainings this Fall.  School Based Health Centers are a powerful force for change in young people's lives -- please support our work with youth so they can succeed in school and in life.

Quality Counts!
Quality in SBHCs counts, and your data counts too!

The School Health Services National Quality Initiative (NQI) is challenging 100% of school-based health center (SBHC) providers and administrators to voluntarily adopt and report standardized performance measures.

For the 2016-17 school year, nearly 600 SBHCs in 34 states, including 51 SBHCs in Connecticut, reported one or more standardized performance measures as part of the NQI initiative!

Let's double that number for the 2017-2018 school year Connecticut!

Let's get started!  Learn more about Quality Counts and enter your data by clicking here
