"Exploring the CPC Program from the State Association page was easy. I did not have to go to a different website...Since I visit the State Association website often, I can access the CPC information anytime I am in the state site. The information about CPC itself is well organized and I was able to understand what is required of me."

Frequently Asked CPC Questions
Q
:
Is the CPC Assessment another NCE and if not, what does it entail?
A:
The CPC Assessment is not like the National Certification Exam (NCE), "the boards." We know that the knowledge required of an experienced practitioner is different from the knowledge that is required of a new practitioner. A professional practice analysis of hundreds of practicing nurse anesthetists was conducted to identify what they did in the course of practice to inform the CPC Assessment content outline. The goal is to make sure that the knowledge tested is common to all CRNAs, regardless of practice focus. To review the CPCA content outline,

The CPC Assessment will assess knowledge in the four core domains of nurse anesthesia practice, which are:
- Airway Management
- Applied Clinical Pharmacology
- Physiology and Pathophysiology
- Anesthesia Equipment and Technology

In Case You Missed It: Certification Status Reminder and Updates
|
|
In October, the NBCRNA announced two additional certification statuses to help more fully communicate a nurse anesthetist's current certification status to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and to other stakeholders. Adherence to the established standards for certification continues to validate to the public, as well as the health care community, that the CRNA credential is a gold standard of anesthesia care. Therefore, to use the CRNA credential, individuals must be
currently
certified, maintaining CPC compliance. . .

In October, the NBCRNA reported a change to the certification fee and timing to better align with the 4-year CPC Program cycles. CRNAs have asked, we listened. For many years, the “recertification fee” was paid every two years (for the upcoming two years of your certification), and this continued the same under the CPC Program when it launched in 2016. Now, in response to CRNA requests and to simplify the timing, instead of paying the CPC fee every two years, the fee structure will change to be every
four
years and will coincide with the timing
of the every-four-year CPC Compliance Application (formerly “Recertification Application”). . . Read

New NBCRNA Database Launching
Platform to Bring Easier Navigation and More Data to CRNAs
|
|
To ensure the most efficient and effective data management of the more than 50,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), the NBCRNA will be transitioning to a new database platform, Certelligence, leveraging emerging technologies and integrations. While many things will seem familiar in the new system, and CRNAs will continue to access all necessary functions via the NBCRNA portal, CRNAs can expect a more personalized and enhanced user experience when they log in to their NBCRNA account.

The NBCRNA Research Initiative: Data-Driven Decisions
|
|
NBCRNA recognizes that as research and technologies continue to evolve, it will impact CRNA practice in various ways. Through the work of the
Evaluation and Research Advisory Committee (ERAC), the NBCRNA is evaluating the current NBCRNA credentialing programs, researching current technologies, and exploring alternative assessment modalities as they relate to the question: What is the best way to assess knowledge and competence over time in CRNA practice? This work will further strengthen and best position the CRNA profession for the future in today's evolving health care environment.

In addition, the new
Logic Model Video
launched in mid-October describes what a Logic Model is and how the NBCRNA is using logic models to guide the evaluation and progress of its credentialing programs. The video features ERAC member
Dennis Spence,
PhD, MS, CRNA, NBCRNA Board Director.
