We’ve got a powerful and joyful service planned for this Sunday, May 9 as we return to inside worship for the first time in 14 months. Services will be at 7:45 and 10 AM. Please remember that the 10 AM service will continue to be live-streamed this Sunday and in the future. You can always choose to watch the service on-line.

For those of you who will be attending the live service at 10 AM, keep in mind that we go live at 9:45 AM and that the microphones in the sanctuary are sensitive. Any sound you make or conversation you have can be picked up on those microphones and sent out to the world. Consider this when you enter the sanctuary. Also remember that we can now meet and greet one another outside before and after the service, and we encourage all of you to do so.

At this time, there will be no congregational singing, but we have a surprise for you to participate in at the end of the service, whether at home or in person at both services this Sunday.

To insure your safety, these are the steps we will be taking and what we ask of each of you attending in person:
1)  All windows and doors to the outside will be opened throughout the service.
2)  Merv 13 air filters have been installed.
3)  Pews will be marked for seating locations, insuring 6 feet distance between family groups.
4)  Service time will be under 75 minutes.
5)  We will have a maximum seating capacity of 200.
6)  All congregants must wear a mask, properly worn over nose and mouth.
7)  There will be no congregational singing at this time.
8)  We will continue utilizing four masked singers and not a full choir.
9)  Communion will be served in one kind in the no touch fashion we are presently using.
10)  Children and youth and the nursery will be meeting outside and in McBride Hall, with the swamp cooler running to provide 100% air from the outside.
11)  We are strongly suggesting that only those who have been fully vaccinated for two weeks attend the services in person.
12)  The pews will be sanitized with a disinfectant between the services.

The 7:45 AM service will be a basic Prayer Book service with no singing. The 10 AM service will include the four singers and a beyond the Prayer Book liturgy with prayers linking to the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. Both services will include communion.
There will no longer be restrictions on conversations after the services. We can now encourage all to meet outside after the service to kibbutz in person and catch up after all these months. There will be more items that come up as we pivot back to indoor worship, but this is how we will begin.

The next step will be to put together a more formal coffee hour after each service or between the services. The Diocese has approved outdoor settings for such coffee hours. These gatherings can include food and drinks, but careful consideration must be made regarding hygiene, spacing, location during the summer heat, and how to host them. We would like to put together a sub-committee to consider these questions in hopes that we can get something organized in the next few weeks. If you would be interested in that planning, please contact our parish administrator, Pam Spears.

We will also be considering Adult Spiritual Formation and potential hybrid forms of gathering together again. Ideas? Share them with Harlan Hokin.

Come Join GSP's Anti-Racism
Study Group

Next meeting will be May 26
4th Wednesday - 4:30 – 5:30 pm

In response to GSP's vision of social justice, the church's “anti-racism to ally” group has been endeavoring to live into its vision through focusing on social justice. The group has focused on writings regarding racism and white privilege, and aims to "move from anti-racism to ally." Our goal is to develop a deep understanding of how "white privilege" is defined, how it affects people of color, and the rest of us, in so many ways. How can we transform this deeply rooted dynamic into one that empowers people of color and ourselves in ways that bring us all more closely together? How can we eliminate the manifestations of white privilege and systemic racism that remain so prevalent today? How can we address and redirect often-unconscious assumptions, words, actions and behaviors associated with white privilege?
To be put on the list to receive materials, to get zoom information on our monthly zoom meeting, or if you have any questions, please contact Rev. Chris, Jill McCollum, Barbara Morehouse, or Peggy Scott through the church office, 520-327-6857
Casa Alitas Welcome Center
overnight volunteers needed

Overnight volunteers ensure our guests of a safe environment while they are sleeping, and a point of contact for medical or other needs that arise during the night. Contact information for the on call medical volunteer and a staff person are provided. The volunteer on duty turns off the “day” lights and verifies that doors are locked by completing a walk through at “bed time.” We ask that the walk through be completed once or twice throughout the night as well. In the morning the overnight volunteer admits volunteers and staff reporting for their shifts. The overnight volunteer is provided a room for sleeping. Volunteer shifts are from 8pm - 8am.

Overnight volunteers are required to complete orientation training and have an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance.

Location: on-site at Casa Alitas
Language requirement: none, but Spanish is very helpful

For more information, please email Pastor Mike Lonergan: [email protected]
TOWELS NEEDED

GSP's Shower Program is in need of gently used or new towels. GSP offers showers to our homeless community on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday mornings.

Can you help by donating towels? Please bring them to the office, Mon-Fri, 9am-noon & drop them off. Or bring them with you to church on Sunday.
Chapel Rock is offering camp this summer! After taking last year off, counselors and camp staff are excited to host children and youth for four total weeks of camp.
Chapel Rock is the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona's summer camp located in beautiful Prescott, AZ. It provides life changing experiences for young people through the use of outdoor activities, high and low ropes courses, small groups, and more. Camp comes at a cost--$415/week for one camper. GSP is committed to helping our young people get to camp and sponsors campers through our Chapel Rock Fund. Please consider donating to this fund! Through our joint efforts, we can offer the Chapel Rock experience to every young person at GSP! Jessica has been on the Chapel Rock planning committee and will be at Chapel Rock for one week of youth camp June 6-12. She is hoping to bring lots of GSP youth with her--two have already registered!

SAY WHAT?

The Spirit Players' First Friday Play Reading returns on May 7 at 7 pm on Zoom. "SAY WHAT?" is the theme for four scripts that present different and confusing types of human communication.

Whether creating one's own words in "The Universal Language", intentionally mistranslating a conversation in "Arabian Nights", or looking forward to a wedding in "Marred Bliss", we will be treated to spoonerisms, malapropisms and plain old misuse of the English language. We will close out the evening with the Ring Gardner classic short play, "The Tridget of Greva", in which a Corn Vitter, a Wham Salesman, and the Tridget carry on a conversation of non-sequiturs while fishing.

We will learn nothing of sociological, aesthetic, or political import through these plays, but a good time is guaranteed for all.

People who wish to read should RSVP to Nanalee Raphael by midnight Tuesday, May 4. Parts will then be assigned prior to the reading.. Scripts will be emailed to all participants – readers and audience - on the Wednesday before the reading, along with the Zoom sign-in information. All are encouraged to attend. Roles may not be available for everyone, but audience members are always welcome! All plays are suitable for humans ages 14 and above. (And if you didn't catch it earlier, the name is Ring Lardner, not Gardner.)
